Is Anyone Else Alone on Christmas Eve? 2025 Edition
Source? I am the source. | Christmas Eve 2025 | Skooz

Posted on 12/24/2025 4:49:29 PM PST by Skooz

Just wondering if any other Freepers are spending this Christmas Eve solo. Just my trusty greyhound and me here, settled in for a relaxing evening with a latte, Ralphie Parker and George Bailey.

Anyone else flying solo tonight?

Yep, I am. Which is infinitely better than working a day or night shift over the holidays.

Gave a new Church a try tonight, very friendly. A little freepin’ now, watching “Its a Wonderful Life”, then off to bed. Dinner party tomorrow to celebrate Christmas.

Sitting here alone in my patrol car enjoying my pipe filled with a black and gold Cavendish... Nothing but the sounds of the traffic over on I-65, and very few calls over the radio. It’s the first time in 31 years of marriage that my wife and I have not been together on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day...

RE: my wife Elaine passed away in April.

Truly sorry to hear of your loss. It’s something everyone thinks they can cope with until it actually happens to them.
I’m 3.5 years past losing my dear wife Joy and as someone wrote: “You never really ‘get over’ the loss, you become stronger in carrying that heavy loss on one of your shoulders as you go through life remembering them.” I feel that way.

Prayers up for you to get through this.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Takes a long time to heal as I found out.

After a long marriage (mine was, too) it always feels like some big part is missing in every activity every day. And you want to turn to the loved one and tell them something amusing or noteworthy you just heard today.

Hang in there.

Big comedown from the Christmas eves of sixty years ago.

"And tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago."

From the song The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Which more and more people tell me seems sad and ironic, and not the most wonderful time if they're depressed.

Prayers up for you to heal from your sadness and loss.

Lost my dear wife 3.5 years ago and amazed I’m still struggling. Big love takes more time, I believe. The Swami who gave the opening talk at Woodstock (I wasn’t there) said you can achieve happiness if you are not attached. Attachment to an outcome like I must get the big job or I must win this person from my rival.
But no attachment means you drift through life without highs or lows.

I would never trade the highs of true mutual love for avoiding the loss I have felt now.

Prayers up for you.

Prayers up for you to get through the grief.

So sorry for your loss. The first months are the worst, if that’s any consolation. I’m a firm believer that true love goes on forever.

Hang in there.

Not married, not interested in getting married. So yes, I spend my Christmas Eve alone. Tomorrow I’m going to my daughter ‘s.
