This year’s flu season is proving to be worse than normal, with hospitalizations up significantly compared to last year, and the CDC reporting 4.6 million cases of the flu so far.
But with peak flu season still going on until at least February, signs of the unusual “super flu” variant behind the rising sickness don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
The leading culprit? The latest version of the flu, subclade K, is a variant of the H3N2 influenza A virus that dominates flu seasons. This strain was responsible for over half of US flu cases as of mid-November.

“The flu vax is a dead virus”
The most modern ones don’t even use the full virus. Just a protein from it that your immune system will learn to target as the enemy.
What’s funny about the terminology “dead virus” is that biology doesn’t consider viruses to ever be living organisms. It’s just a term of convenience. “Crippled virus” is probably more accurate.
The term of art today is, I believe, 'Inactivated Virus'.
True, crippled virus is a term left over from decades ago. The Sabin sugar cube polio vaccine may have been the one described as “crippled” because it was a weakened virus, versus Salk’s vaccine which was a “dead” virus. Sabin was phased out because in rare cases it could mutate back to a dangerous virus.
