Republicans are Facing an Extinction Event
American Thinker ^ | 15 Dec, 2025 | Brian C. Joondeph

An extinction event is a rapid, sweeping collapse -- something so disruptive that what emerges afterward is unrecognizable from what came before. Volcano eruptions or meteor strikes can trigger such events in the natural world.

Washington, D.C. may be approaching a political version of the same phenomenon, and Republicans seem disturbingly unprepared for what is coming.

The GOP currently holds narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress -- seven seats in the House and six in the Senate. Those margins are razor-thin by any measure, and fragile given that five senators, three Republicans and two Democrats, are over eighty years old. But demographics are only part of the problem. History is another.

According to the Khan Academy: “The president’s party often loses seats during midterm elections, a trend seen 93% of the time in the House and 70% in the Senate.”

If historical trends hold, Republicans are not merely at risk; they are heading into a storm they may not survive.

But history alone is not what endangers today’s GOP. It is performance, or more accurately, the lack of it.

Two weeks ago, in these pages, I documented Congress’s astonishing lethargy. In case you missed it, here’s the summary:

President Donald Trump has issued 217 executive orders, 54 memoranda, and 110 proclamations in his second term, yet Congress has codified only 28 of those EOs, around 13 percent, into law.

Confirmation of key positions is equally dismal. Of roughly 1,300 Senate-confirmable posts, the Senate has approved only 265. More than 100 nominations sit untouched in procedural purgatory. An “advice and consent” duty becomes meaningless when the Senate refuses to advise or consent on anything.

I don’t think it’s that desperate. Remember the 250th anniversary will be next year and the libs will protest it or have to act like they care. It’s going to be difficult for them.

“Influencers like Tim Pool and Candace Owens, each with massive, influential followings...”

I agree with a lot of what he says, but that statement is just not accurate at all.

I think most republican politicians favor popular vote, open borders, corrupt voting, etc. They do get spoils from all of this after all.

Yes. That is why I laugh at the whole political system that runs Washington D.C. The Politicos get rich no matter who is in charge. So whichever side seems to be gaining momentum, they do a ‘Chicken Little’ and yell to send them more money. And the Media is in on the conspiracy as well. These same sanctimonious Reporters who were lamenting the break up of the Democratic Party are now lamenting the break up of the Republican Party. They win in destruction of either party, and in fact, like the Green Scam, emminent doom must be reported.

<< Yes, Trump can veto. No, it won’t matter. Corporate media will brand him “President Veto,” and his approval ratings could slide toward Congressional levels. >>

Reagan issued 78 vetoes and a very hostile media and it didn’t hurt him. The hand-wringing is already getting old and we’re almost a year away from the midterms.

If inflation continues to move in the wrong direction, the republicans will almost certainly get wiped out. All of the warning signs are right there to see, clear as day.

If inflation is truly brought under control, there is a chance they can hold onto power, but it will still be a tough fight.

But he needs to shut his mouth from saying things that are causing the ‘fence sitters’ to dislike him.

The st00pit things he says are not nearly as problematic as the America SECOND things he does.

- Working for China and our corrupt universities by adbocating 600k Chinese students.

- Working for big tech and corporate donors by advocating for a large increase in H1B visas.

- Working for Israel, Miriam Adelson ($100m donation) and American neocons by going to war for Israel, adding more American troops to Syria and now adding troops to GAZA of all places.

Saying dumb, narcissistic things is forgivable. Turning MAGA into America 2nd is not.

People are not complacent. They know that the GOP Congress isn’t interested in restoring America. They care about enriching themselves and literally express their devotion to places like Ukraine and Israel over the best interests of this country and the voters. They always make sure that their pockets are filled and the meager legislation they concoct will never effect themselves in a negative way.

Trump sure has tried but we all knew where the real problem for people on the right lies. The GOPe is still thinking they can stay relevant by being a little bit less kooky than those evil nutcases of the RAT Party.

People have figured out that the GOP are pretenders who are the more sane acting butt kissin’ cousins of the RAT nutcases.

Voting won’t fix this because we can’t even get them to support the President. And yes, I will vote, but I have no expectation that many others who were so excited in 2024 will still think their vote is important anymore.

Wow. Three months ago, they were talking about the “extinction” of the Democratic Party because of the takeover by the radical elements. Then, they win special elections in a blue state and the script was flipped.

The sky is falling (again).

Luke 10:
[38]Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. [39] And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
[40] But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
[41] And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
[42] But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Agreed. I vote for him in spite of the fact he chimes in on things that he should ignore. Things that can hurt him.

That said, I don’t blame Trump for disliking Reiner. He has every reason to despise Reiner because of the despicable way Reiner treated him.

POTUS should have said nothing regarding the tragic Reiner incident. Silence can speak words too. Particularly in the office Trump holds.

If inflation is truly brought under control...

The main driver of inflation is fed.gov spending and devaluation of the dollar... which, NOBODY - including Trump - ever talks about.

In fact, they all, including Trump, spend like bitches at the mall, and weaponize the dollar, scaring investors, particularly foreign investors, away from it.

To his credit, Trump seems to notice the folly of dollar weaponization, and has brought revenues up via tariffs etc., but is still a big spender.

Republicans LOVE being the minority party. They get to keep their cushy positions and not have to be responsible.

Despite the fact that I can’t stand them, I give the Dems credit. They fight. Republicans get in control and don’t do a damn thing. Read 1,000 Years For Revenge. It’s a slow, creeping process that will ultimately put the entire world into a caliphate.
