National Cabinet has vowed strengthen Australia's gun laws in the wake of the Bondi Beach terror attack.
In a statement following the snap meeting on Monday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said "immediate" priorities included a crackdown on 3D-printed weapons, tighter limits on the number of firearms a person can own, gun imports, and equipment that can hold large amounts of ammunition.
Albanese also said police ministers and attorneys-general across the nation had been tasked with developing a number of policies which would limit Australians' access to firearms.
They include a requirement that all licence-holders are Australian citizens, deeper background checks and more regular reviews once someone has a permit.
It's the worst mass shooting in Australia since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, when a lone gunman shot dead 35 people, prompting a wave of gun control measures, including a ban on assault rifles and shotguns.
NSW Police say one of the alleged gunmen — the 50-year-old father who was shot dead — was a licensed firearms holder, with six guns licenced to him.
"We will take every step we possibly can to keep our community safe and we'll be looking at law reform along that route," Minns told reporters on Monday.
"This is an attempt to break apart our social life, to divide Australian against Australian. There's a massive role for the government, NSW Police and regular citizens to play here to ensure that we keep our community safe. And I won't hesitate to move legislation if it's required."

It was inevitable this would be exploited by those who want to further limit gun rights in Australia.
Does it worry me? Not too much, really. Symbolically, it matters, but it’s mostly symbolism. They are going to pick around the edges to try and score some political points, but if they do too much, they know they will lose at least as many votes as they gain.
If Albanese had more guts and actual took a position based on a genuine strong moral stance... that might worry me. But I’d be surprised if it happened.
Whatever we may think about what John Howard did in 1996, he had real guts and commitment to do it. No PM since has had anything like his bottle.
I guess that makes his plan to make sure only citizens can get gun permits useless.
Well, really, motive only matters if you are White Christian Nationalist.

An order in council rolled out by then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in May 2020 banned thousands of “assault weapons” and claimed to offer compensation to those who voluntarily turn in their weapons. According to Hagen, an order in council is a “non-democratic legal instrument” where the Canadian government can ban items like guns “without having to take legislation through parliament.”
The government also doesn’t guarantee compensation for turning in the designated weapons, only saying that gun owners “who choose to participate in the program may receive compensation subject to availability of program funds.”
Many Canadian provinces, including Yukon, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, have indicated they will not assist the national government in enforcing the ban.
“We will have nothing to do with this program. We will not spend any Alberta taxpayer dollars on this program,” Teri Bryant, the chief firearms officer of Alberta, told CBC News last month.
