The ever-ditzy Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) was a guest on the "Grounded" podcast, when she was asked by host Jon Tester about the presence of military personnel in cities like Washington, D.C., and Chicago, Illinois.
Though the podcast aired this past September, a couple of her comments have recently re-surfaced and gone viral.
When Tester asked the congresswoman her thoughts on the military presence in those cities, Crockett replied, “I think it’s terrible.”
That opinion can legitimately be debated by people of good faith.
However, she went on to say: "I want to be clear that, like, law enforcement isn't to prevent crime.”
Huh?!
She added, “Law enforcement solves crime. O.K.? That is what they are supposed to do. They are supposed to solve crimes, not necessarily, um, prevent them from happening per se."
O.K., Jazzy, now take your meds. Again, we can debate the merits of military personnel in American cities, but not that statement.
Those in “law enforcement” are explicitly tasked with enforcing the law. A significant part of that mandate is to try to prevent people from, like, breaking the law, brainiac. They are not supposed to be indifferent to, say, murders, rapes, and terrorist attacks causing mass casualties. The goal is to prevent these crimes, not just investigate or solve them after they have occurred.

In point of fact, law enforcement (i.e., police presence) does deter crime.
Here's a thought experiment; In City A, police catch 99% of burglars. In City B, police catch 1% of burglars.
In which city would there be fewer burglaries?
A debate with her would be grand.
Actually, it is and is working in DC you maroon.
“Her stupidity is all an act”
Could be
Her Wiki page education section is dizzying
She went to Rhodes College. It’s not at Cambridge but in Memphis, Tennessee
Deciphering it- she majored in accounting in undergrad, was advised to drop it for having too much personality (she got kicked out for being disruptive?)
She majored in business
She went to law school -then graduated from a different law school from the one she started.
Soon she passed the BAR. “soon”?
She was a member of the BAR assn. - no longer?
“She was a member of the National Bar Association and of the Dallas Black Criminal Bar Association.[7]
Early career
Following her education, Crockett became a public defender for Bowie County, Texas and later formed a law firm, which handled car accident lawsuits and took pro bono cases for Black Lives Matter activists.
Where? What firm? How did she make money?
Did she learn that law enforcement prevents crime?
She is a mystery
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
blackdog wrote: “Actually she is correct. Policing in America is supposed to be a reactive or response to a crime. Any prevention is incidental to presence.”
Actually, she is correct.
Just try suing a police department for failing to prevent a crime.
It isn’t???
Fix it then.
Law enforcement isn’t to prevent crime
Law and military personnel are arresting those that have broke the law it’s why they call them illegals.
Jasmine Crockett has to have the lowest IQ in congress and those who voted for her.
Really?? A cop on street corners is surely a deterrent. That’s what the National Guard folks are doing....and it’s working.
That wouldn’t necessarily be a fair comparison, either. The ethnic makeup of city A and city B would have much to do with it. Some groups of people simply do not care if they get caught. (this wasn’t always the case) Some experts have even claimed that capital punishment has little deterrent effect, although most of us who value life can’t see how that could be, but we don’t live in the minds of those who commit those crimes, either....
She obviously doesn’t even know the police don’t have to answer your calls, 911 calls, or even respond to your calls for their assistance. Your personal safety is your personal responsibility. The police are just there to fill out paperwork.
She puts this into practice every day.
I actually liked the original Spice Girls.
Was she born that way or dropped as a baby.
A strong police presence can be a deterrent to crime IF criminals believe they are more likely to be caught and prosecuted. A huge problem we have now is liberal DAs that let criminals plead down & judges that allow violent criminals to be out on bail or no bail to commit more crimes.
Are you people crazy??
Police/ LEO ARE NOT there to PREVENT crime. Never have been, never will, and can Not!
She is 100% correct.
Scotus has ruled over and over it is not the job or responsibility for LEO to protect people or prevent crime.
IF it WAS the job of Leo to Prevent Crime/ Protect individuals. Then any criminal act that happens LEO could be held responsible.
“”They are supposed to solve crimes””
Really? Does this woman have trouble breathing? She definitely has problems THINKING! Who took the TX Bar exam for her?
She obviously is implying support for the Second Amendment and the armed citizen. That’s where there’s prevention.
Priceless. He’s the best..great entertainment in the dull world of politics. I just finished his new book. It was full of stuff like this...One of my favorites was:
“My mama didn’t raise no fools. If she did, it was one of my brothers.”
I’m making a poster from it, to take to the range.
