Funny story...Dad offered my sister and I GE “portable” B&W TVs for our bedrooms in exchange for NOT going to the World’s Fair in NYC. We took the TVs. I still regret that. I think Dad got them at the GE company store for cheap, too!

We drove from upstate NY to Westchester, NY to see his folks a couple times a year and then over to Stamford, CT to see his sister and family. Those were good Thanksgiving and Easter trips, but I don’t think Dad liked the idea of yet another trip to NYC in the summer.

That is the exact phone that sat in the corner of my Mother’s kitchen.

They were maps that were organized in a flip-book that you could turn the page to the next map when driving.

in exchange for NOT going to the World’s Fair in NYC.

I went, I don't recall anything remarkable or memorable about it.

About 1960, I tied my little transistor radio to the handlebars of my big 26" Schwin bicycle. I thought it was SO cool having portable tunes with me! I predated Walkman and Boombox with that.

Also had to use a 45 adapter to play singles on a normal turntable.

"It will be a huge, huge mistake to convert to a cashless society."

Isn't that the truth? I love the convenience, but when the SHTF, then what? Back to barter, I guess. Then we'll have to re-create cash. It will sure put a dent in the recovery from the SHTF event. I can see states and cities issuing their own scrip like was common 150 years ago.

We never had dial up. So that’s one point.
I don’t remember using the 8 inch floppy.
But it is possible that I did and just don’t remember.
There were a lot of machines floating around
the phone company.
Microfilm/fish was fun.
