No one has considered this situation from the responding officers view. Not knowing exactly what’s happening, screaming woman outside, sounds of dog pack snarling and chomping, seeing the whole grisly scene with that kid getting torn up with an old guy obviously done for.

Then one or more of those officers had to compartmentalize all that to aim and fire at the moving dogs as accurately as possible so as to miss the victims, knowing the pack may turn on them in the blink of an eye.

I hope they get proper recognition and find their money’s no good for a while at their favorite establishments.

If the dogs came after the cops, they should indeed be recognized for standing fast. But in general, even bears bail out after warning shots. It’s the plight of animals with a highly-developed sense of hearing, whether bears or dogs, that very loud sounds seem to cause physical pain in ways a human would not suffer. The first shot would likely send them fleeing the source of the sound. While not 100% effective, most of the time, even grizzlies flee gunshots.
