Student’s failing Bible-based essay on gender won’t affect final grade, trans instructor placed on leave after backlash

A University of Oklahoma student’s final grade won’t be affected after she controversially flunked a Bible-based essay on gender that was assigned by a trans instructor — triggering widespread backlash.

Samantha Fulnecky, 20, filed a discrimination complaint with the school last week after she was given an F for arguing in her psychology class paper that “belief in multiple genders” was “demonic.”

The school has since revealed the failing grade will have no bearing on Fulnecky’s academic standing after the course’s professor, Mel Curth, was placed on leave and administrators launched a probe into the junior’s complaint.

For the assignment, Curth — a transgender grad student who uses “she/they” pronouns — had asked students to pen a 650-word response to an academic article that weighed whether conformity with gender norms was associated with popularity or bullying among middle school students.

Thank the Lord somebody else has read the essay. You are 100% correct. From what my daughter told me even students and graduates of Christian colleges have been critical of the essay. She reads Twitter AKA X and I don’t so she sees more kerfuffle on this.

We need to get the pervs out of education before they infect our children any more.

You don’t have to take my word for it. You can read her essay her essay https://x.com/TurningPointOU/status/1994157531531280787. And she got zero of 25 points. I don’t know, if 0 points is justified but in my opinion this was definitely a fail.

We had a couple of those on a ship I was on. When we were in the shipyard one of the workers thought it was a drinking fountain:)

Maybe 'satanic' is a better adjective to use than 'demonic' but that deserves maybe a 1% lower mark, not a failing grade.

It would be interesting to know how many more qualified candidates were passed over in order to hire this trans instructor.

“However, there was one very important point made in that reply and that is the unfortunate fact that the social sciences now all agree (wrongly) that gender is not fixed or binary.”

The issues here supersede the quality of the essay.

From your statement it appears a public university is using tax dollars to teach antiscience religion to young college students.

That alone requires legislative intervention. Clean that mess up before more youngsters are damaged.

Thank you for referencing that article V_TWIN.

Student’s failing Bible-based essay on gender won’t affect final grade, trans instructor placed on leave after backlash

This incident is not strictly a university concern because referenced professor technically probably broke (imo) the following 14th Amendment-based, anti-lawfare federal law intended to discourage state and federal government actors from violating constitutionally enumerated personal protections.

18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law: Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States [emphasis added], or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law

I haven't found any numbers concerning people who have been convicted of violating this law, so professor probably needn't be concerned.

Instructor: "I identify as a woman."

Student: "I identify my paper as an A+ paper. See how that works?"

What you describe is the level of scholarship common to undergrads in this day and age. Whether she deserved a failing grade is no longer the issue. Was the student treated differently because Christianity offends her trans professor?

I beg to differ. She complains about her failing grade. The only relevant question (in this respect at least) is whether she deserved it.

Granted, some of the things her professor wrote range from out of line to plain wrong (”sex and gender is neither binary nor fixed”) This does’t change the fact that even completely unbiased teachers would have failed her.

Do both, if possible. And if one doesn’t prevail take your money out of the school(tuition) and get others to do so and let them know why. If 20 students leave, it is a loss of about $750k-1m per year for the school. Time to start financially “killing” the falsehood promoting schools.

That may be but that it was part of the course activity was also a fail. should not have been there. Appears general psychology?
