What you describe is the level of scholarship common to undergrads in this day and age. Whether she deserved a failing grade is no longer the issue. Was the student treated differently because Christianity offends her trans professor?

I beg to differ. She complains about her failing grade. The only relevant question (in this respect at least) is whether she deserved it.

Granted, some of the things her professor wrote range from out of line to plain wrong (”sex and gender is neither binary nor fixed”) This does’t change the fact that even completely unbiased teachers would have failed her.

I don’t believe she was treated differently as far as receiving a failing grade. The essay was very poorly written and did not follow the instructions. I do however believe the professor (or grad assistant) did allow her personal feelings to show in her explanation. That was wrong. She should have just left it at the non-personal. But the failing grade was justified.
