Avatar: Fire and Ash has had its first few screenings for press on Monday, and the early reaction suggests James Cameron can celebrate yet another billion dollar box office mega hit.
While official critics reviews for Fire and Ash are embargoed till closer to the film's Dec. 19 release date, 20th Century Studios allowed press to release social media reaction to screenings this week.
The third installment in Cameron's groundbreaking Avatar series, sees the action return to Pandora after the events of 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, and introduces the "Ash" people, fire-themed Na'vi clan. Fire and Ash stars Avatar regulars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder and Giovanni Ribisi. The Way of Water‘s Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis reprise their roles.
The major new additions to the cast are Oona Chaplin, who plays Varang, the Na'vi leader of the volcano-dwelling Mangkwan clan and David Thewlis, who plays Peylak, the Na'vi leader of the Wind Traders.
Given the Cameron's pedigree, and Avatar‘s unique place in pop culture, Fire and Ash‘s box office prospects look good, but the film will still need to perform heroics to keep up with the hauls of the first two chapters. 2009's Avatar, the film that ushered in the 3D film craze, made over $2.9 billion at the global box office, not adjusted for inflation. The film still holds the title of the highest grossing movie in history. 2022's The Way of Water scored an incredible $2.34 billion worldwide, a figure all the more remarkable as the theatrical industry was still reeling from a post-COVID slump.
The third film is set to be followed by Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031.

Although, I only saw the first story, people don’t go to Cameron’s movies because of the storyline. They go see it for the latest visual tech.
I saw both; but I think the first was the best.
Visually they were great but storywise...
Unobtanium
They’re very imaginative, and so visually appealing that you can just dismiss the propaganda.
“I’m waiting for Critical Drinker’s review before I spend $ on part III”
A must see! I am sure he will pan it with lots of yuks. It will be 100x better than this fantasy planet jive. And from the same man who made Alien and Terminator 2.
Cameron bugged out to New Zeeland long ago.
LOL
I thought Titanic was hideous — the poor people are GREAT, wealthy people are HORRIBLE!
Someone posted a meme a week or two ago with the famous ‘two lovers’ at the bow of the ship. There was a white cat eating popcorn who said: “push her!” It’s the most fun thought I have about the movie...
You could tell when in Terminator the budget was gone and the effects declined in appearance, still I like the movie.
The Abyss was similar, running low on budget by the end, however it was really crappy.
I have only walked out of two movies:
Saturday Night Fever and Avatar...just impossible to continue viewing.
I wish him well, though.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, by 20th Century Studios. Like its predecessor, the film was subject to multiple delays (in this case, nine in total) since the crew took more time on the writing, pre-production and
Is a sequel to a ludicrous movie really necessary?
I’ve enjoyed some sequels; but usually I’d rather see something completely new.
‘The Abyss’ is one of my favorites.
Some things are just sacrilege...
Elvis makes everything better!
Elvis shouldn’t be faked.
3 entire movies to drag that bore out?
To get the age old “unobtainium”.
I was working in a resort in Minnesota the summer the Abyss came out, and a buddy asked if I would like to see The Abyss, his name was Dan.
Dan and I worked together and, unbeknownst to me, had gone to the movie with another acquaintance...
At some point they both looked at each other and said; ‘Sheeshe! this is ridiculous!.’
So he took me to the movie and began watching watching me critically around the time Ed Harris’s wedding ring was not crushed in the door...
I looked at Dan with such displeasure on my face and he was laughing! He was waiting for me to realize the idiocy of the moment...my wedding would have been crushed in that door. We both had a wonderful laugh. He got me good!
At the end of the movie, when the alien ‘base’ surfaced from the bottom of the ocean, anyone could tell it was a bad prop about the size of a kiddie pool with worse wave action than a Godzilla movie.
I appreciate that you are a FReeper and we ALL have different tastes and preferences
Peace and God bless to you, FRiend.
Thanks!
