The Boy Scouts of America was officially chartered by Congress in 1916 for one purpose:
That the purpose of this corporation shall be to promote, through organization and co-operation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self- reliance and kindred virtues.
While that official charter did not necessarily make the Boy Scouts of America an official part of the U.S. government, it has given them many perks over the years.
Like for example, the law that gives The Boy Scouts of America access to military bases, their facilities, and the use of their vehicles at the discretion of the Secretary of Defense.
NPR reports that those perks are coming to an end under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning for the military to sever all ties with Scouting America, saying the group once known as the Boy Scouts is no longer a meritocracy and has become an organization designed to ‘attack boy-friendly spaces,' according to documents reviewed by NPR.
Hegseth criticizes Scouting for being ‘genderless' and for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
‘The organization once endorsed by President Theodore Roosevelt no longer supports the future of American boys.'
NPR is pretty sure Hegseth lacks the legal authority to do this because these are laws passed by Congress.
However, the law says the support comes at the discretion of the Secretary, and the law also says that the support should go to "The Boy Scouts of America," an organization that doesn't exist anymore.
The Boy Scouts of America officially changed their name to Scouting America this year, and it isn't the same organization that received the congressional charter in 1916; it's not even the same organization referred to in the law allowing military resources to be used in its meetings.

That’s really great...I wish that scout master had felt they needed the outdoor experience...I am sure another group would’ve taken my offer, but I didn’t try anyone else...
As an Eagle scout, good riddance. My troop was probably one of the last that still adhered to Baden-Powell’s orignal plan of turning boys into men who were prepared to enter military service.

I would propose that this is a step toward the original organization. There is a remnant of good people in the scouts and this may encourage them. Remember MAGA.

if anyone wants to rag, blame today’s boys for failing to grow up or learn basic values and skills, they need only look to the parents, many of the public schools, and yes, the loss of the BSA

I was in the Cub Scouts a short while around 1960. There were no male adults involved at all. Mothers were the only ones. Same with the PTA back then.
While sad to hear, those of us from the original BSA understand the respect you showed him. We were just kids, but we knew that uniform represented high standards and we were expected to live up to them.
I was fortunate to have been a member of the Indian Guides, sponsored by the Young Men's Christian Association, and later the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. The Indian Guides, consisting of fathers and sons, strengthened father-son relationships, promoted socialization, and taught us that there was more to the culture of American Indians than was portrayed in the oaters that dominated TV at the time. It even held toy drives for needy Indian children.
However, the Indian Guides were disbanded long ago as being "racist." And nothing replaced it, so now boys are deprived of an institution that helped them to grow into good, responsible citizens. Liberalism does, indeed, ruin everything it touches.
Cub scouts was always different. They almost always had “Den Mothers.” By scouts was the male dominated culture through the mid eighties.
I always found it “strange” that career CIA, and CIA head Robert Gates served as Defense Secretary under both Bush and Obama.
And then after his Deep State service, went on to allow homosexual troop leaders into the Boy Scouts, which effectively killed the Boy Scouts who had cancer from our perverted and political society.
I joined the Cub Scouts in 1959, as part of Pack 193. The Pack was the main body, presided over by a man, but it was subdivided into Dens, small groups of boys which met weekly at private homes and were run by women known as Den Mothers.
