I was in the Cub Scouts a short while around 1960. There were no male adults involved at all. Mothers were the only ones. Same with the PTA back then.
Cub scouts was always different. They almost always had “Den Mothers.” By scouts was the male dominated culture through the mid eighties.
I joined the Cub Scouts in 1959, as part of Pack 193. The Pack was the main body, presided over by a man, but it was subdivided into Dens, small groups of boys which met weekly at private homes and were run by women known as Den Mothers.
