SALT LAKE CITY — A young Utah couple heading to Idaho were killed early Saturday after being struck head-on by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City.
The Utah Highway Patrol said a driver was headed the wrong way in the northbound lanes on the highway at approximately 2 a.m. when he slammed into another vehicle near 2100 South.
Both occupants in the vehicle that was hit, Anneka Wilson and Leo Shepherd, both 18 years old, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Jose Jimenez, suffered only minor injuries and has been arrested and faces two charges of automobile homicide, driving under the influence and wrong way driving, and violation of his learner's permit.
Jimenez, 21, was driving on a learner's permit at the time of the incident. Court documents state he admitted that he did not feel safe to be driving at the time.
Wilson and Shepherd were driving to Idaho to spend the remainder of the Thanksgiving weekend at her aunt's farm.
The Wilson family said Anneka, who was from Springville, was about to graduate from high school and had her sights set on attending college and studying radiology.

“ That said, no one should be out at 2 o’clock in the morning.”
I was out at 2:00 this morning driving to work. Some people don’t work 9-5 on weekdays.
That said, I see a lot of weird poop out there.
Why is it that the guilty party mostly gets away with minor injuries, yet the victims are usually in a bad condition?! :^/
Again, the wrong people died in this accident.
I wish I still had my “Jan and Dean Meet Batman” album.

First thing I thought of when I saw that name. Looks like plenty of us on this thread.
When are they going to start charging folks that kill people driving while DUI with murder?
When are they going to start charging folks that kill people driving while DUI with murder?

By the way, the aide walking them down the hall was Tony Gonzales, former NFL tight end...heh, appropriate here!
Driving their KIAs on the wrong side of the road is a badge of honor in Tampa Florida subdivisions where the Latina illegals love to play chicken and drive straight at you at high speed if you happen to be one of those suckers who still drive on the right side of the road on a two-way street.
Last month I was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy for not wearing my seatbelt while creeping along in a long string of cars going 17 mph past a grade school where the speed when yellow lights are flashing is 20. He was on a spiffy little motorcycle.
I had everything I could do to keep my mouth shut and not read him the riot act for his boss’s refusal to enforce the criminal law in our county as he asked if I had insurance.
He went back to his bike, checked out my license, then let me off with a warning.
“What is that Jose? A crash helmet?” Oh, I hope not.
I hate hearing these stories - I live in So Cal where freeways are part of the landscape.
I hear about these wrong-way crashes - and deaths - about once a month on our high speed freeways. Usually an illegal or foreigner who doesn’t speak or read English - yet has a driver’s license issued by the state.
“When are they going to start charging folks that kill people driving while DUI with murder?”
I’ve read some states do after multiple DUIs and a warning that should they kill someone while DUI they will be charged with murder.

Perhaps the best way to protect society from a DUI offender is to give them very long sentences in prison.
I remember that sketch. I’m old.
