Disney insults viewers again and learns nothing

I remember Star Wars. I had no idea what I’d be seeing that 1977 day in that common theater of the time. Popcorn and pop were affordable, as was admission, which was fortunate, because I saw the movie four times in quick succession with a variety of friends.

From the moment the Star Wars logo filled the screen, accompanied by John Williams’ main title fanfare, I, and countless others, were enthralled. We’d never seen anything like it, and while the special effects now seem a bit dated in comparison with contemporary computer-generated imagery, they still hold up well.

Like all epic literature, the movie began in medias res and followed the journey of a hero—Luke Skywalker—fighting against insurmountable odds, aided by supernatural forces, in this case “The Force.” Certainly, other decisions in the movies that followed were ill-advised, such as the eminently forgettable Jar Jar Binks. Even so, fans expected, and largely got, epic adventure, noble and admirable characters, ever-improving special effects and a few hours of solid entertainment. I didn’t succumb to Star Wars merchandise but looked forward to each new film.

Then the Disney Grooming Syndicate got ahold of the franchise.

They expanded into TV and streaming, and some offerings, like The Mandalorian were popular, but Disney drove the franchise into terminal wokeness and fired popular star Gina Carano over a mildly conservative social media post. She sued for wrongful termination and won a settlement from Disney in August of 2025.

Doubling down on stupid, Disney produced The Acolyte in 2024, and its creator quickly declared it the “gayest Star Wars yet,” which was only a warmup for the revelation that lesbian space witches created the Jedi.

Beautiful comment there, Salamander.  You remind me of once training with the 12th Marine artillery battalion at the foot of Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the Big Island.

Mauna Kea is famous for its clear skies, which is why there are several international astronomic observatories atop that mountain.

But even much farther down the slope, the view of the night sky there is spectacular.  It was utterly pitch black all around us, except for the bright constellations above.  Laying on the ground and looking up, in the space of just a few minutes you'd see a dozen meteors streak across, burning up in splendor as they hit the Earth's atmosphere.

Good one.

I used to love Star Wars, but have found something better- making fun of Star Wars.

Was your oldest son inspired to launch a career in aviation or space? Sounds like he was fascinated by flight.

If only he COULD be forgotten! Jar Jar Binks is one of those things you can't un-see, un-hear, or forget.

"Lost all interest in Star wars after the 2nd movie..."

For me, it was the Ewoks in "Return of the Jedi". It was over right there. Well, that and the stupid scene with the worm/mouth thing on Tatooine. Oh, and a repeat of the Death Star attack and destruction. Oh, and that Darth Vader, when finally unmasked, looked like a grandfather in a Hidden Valley Farms commercial. Oh, and the ghostly images of Ben Kenobi and Annikan Skywalker smiling benevolently at everyone at the end of the movie. Ugh!

Geez, what a steaming turd that movie was. And yet, somehow, Lucas managed to dump far larger turds through another six films. And that was BEFORE Disney got its woke, LGBTQXYZ+++ creepy fingers into it.

George Lucas said that the Rebels were inspired by the Viet Cong.

Here to. That was so stupid.

At the time, the special effects were the best I had ever scene. I remember my friend and I being blown away by the “jump to lightspeed” effect.

No. He's more of a computer geek, but he does love programs about space. He got hooked on the original Star Trek series as a teen, and has watched all the related series that have come since then. He spent about 10 years working for Conrail. My father worked for the NY Central, and my son has never lost his love of trains.

About 20+ years ago, he was into building models and dioramas, entered them in contests and won many awards for his work. He got over that phase in his life. I think he got tired of having to dust all the models off. He still has some out on display though. He now works as a graphic artist and videographer for an international company. In his spare time he writes script for game mods, uploads them online for other people to download and use in games. He also live streams on the weekends.

At the moment he's in Berlin on vacation. That's his favorite place. He's also been to other cities and countries in Europe. This past April he went to Austria, the Czech Republic and Berlin. He told me he's getting too old to drag his bags from place to place, and is going to start going to one country at a time. He's already planning another trip in the spring.

A nice movie that he will probably not review but I liked is "Rental Family" playing now.

It is a Japanese production set in Japan and it is an interesting look at what is happening when a good portion of society has fragile or nonexistent family ties.

Nice summation of what made the original exciting. Spot on about the bean counters too.

It is about half in Japanese (with sub-titles) and I apparently remember far more Japanese then I thought.

I like the guns, spaceships and explosions movies but I do like something with a bit of depth as well. And this one provided. Hope you enjoy it.

And a BTW for Ms. English: If it’s a hit show, why the need to tell everyone it’s a hit show?
