WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, a loyal supporter-turned-critic of President Donald Trump who faced his political retribution if she sought reelection, said Friday she is resigning from Congress in January.
Greene, in a more than 10-minute video posted online, explained her decision and said she didn’t want her congressional district “to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for,” she said.
The opening in her district means Republican Gov. Brian Kemp will have to set a special election date within 10 days of Greene’s resignation. Such a special election would fill out the remainder of Greene’s term through January 2027. Those elections could take place before the party primaries in May for the next two-year term.

I generally write off members of Congress who decide to leave their districts behind and try to make themselves into national political figures. Most of the time, they just come across as self-aggrandizing clowns.

I was responding to the ridiculousness of your “guilty by association” meme. Greene used to be someone I would fast forward through, or switch the channel on due to how much she made me cringe…But this past year, I have appreciated her voice and think it’s healthy for Trump to not just have yes-men buzzing around him. There needs to be some accountability for the part of the base that is struggling in the ways Greene described.

The bigger, more fundamental rift is between the populist, "I'm okay with big government spending as long as it is coming to me and mine" wing, and those who still believe in limited government and controlling spending.
The populists claim to want to control the debt, but that's only true in the abstract. At their core, they're really just 1970's big-government, pro-labor Democrats.

She railed against the elites in both parties and was a staunch principled defender of America First priorities. It was Trump who embarked on an egomaniacal tirade against one of his strongest supporters. Trust me many on MAGA will be giving up on Trump. Wait until you start seeing his approval numbers soon.
