A disbanded court in Las Vegas may come back to life as lawmakers look to attract visitors to revive Sin City tourism.
Vegas tourism has continued to decline, with just over 3 million visitors in September, an 8.8% decrease from the same time last year, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCA).
A specialized court was created in 2022 to handle offenses such as petty theft, assault, drug violations and loitering, with penalties including banning offenders from the Strip for a year.
The Resort Corridor Court, however, was disbanded less than two years later after judges raised concerns about its legality.
Supporters of the unique court — mainly casino and resort owners — have backed an amendment to Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo’s new crime package, The Associated Press reported.
The Resort Corridor Court was the first and only of its kind — an entity just for crime outside tourist hot spots, AP said.
Nevada Resort Association president Virginia Valentine told the outlet the move to revive it is necessary.
"It’s important for the safety of our guests and for our employees in the workplace," said Valentine.

“ Get the costumed characters/djs/scammers/homeless off the strip sidewalks along with banning open pot smoking and that would go a LONG way to restoring the strip. I’ve only been going there for just over 10 years and the decline from the first time I went to present day is jaw dropping.”
I agree 200%. I visited Vegas on and off every few years for the last 40 years. The last time a few years ago, I couldn’t believe how many Snoop Dogg lookalikes were standing around on the strip smoking weed and conducting petty drug deals
Heinlein had it right: TANSTAAFL.
But still, one could visit Vegas and have a good time on a modest budget back in the day.
[And park for free]
So how are things at the Bunny Ranch?
Pay them with beer.
Very cool, those things are highlights, like Preservation Hall in ‘Nawlins.
Exactly. Bring back the Rat Pack days....if only!
Whooo!—those fingers are 9 inches long! Historic figure! Thanks back for that one.
Back around 1987 I stayed at Whiskey Pete’s casino in Primm a few times while doing geophysics work at the Colosseum mine, not far from there.
It’s never going to happen. Bring back $50 hotel rooms and $5 steak dinners and I might go back.
Where’s Tony Spilotro when you need him to pop a few eyeballs out?
Heinlein nailed it, Truer words were never spoken
that would make DC, Chicago and New York City ghost towns.
I wouldn’t know and l always heard you would’t want to know
I stayed in LV for two weeks on a field service job at trona mine. That was back in 1974. Has it changed much?
Entertainment was good, breakfasts almost free, drinks cheap, and the clanking of mechanical one-armed bandits was music to the ears. No electronic glaring lights and endless electronic beeps and boops. Just the whir-clunk-clunk-clunk of the wheels dropping into place.
I do remember taking a girl I met to a show and discreetly tipping the maître d’hôtel on the way into the theater. He was leading us down an aisle to a primo table at the front when he glanced at his hand and did an abrupt about face and plunked us down in the back row. I guess $1 wasn’t enough back in ‘74.
There are plenty of lots available in the surrounding desert to handle disposal of the sidewalk trash...
Dig, Baby, Dig!
Exactly.
