That climate is a-changin'!
The Gulf Stream is near collapse, scientists warn — inviting a new ice age and rising sea levels https://t.co/mtZqDdQwce pic.twitter.com/37bikEYbXU— New York Post (@nypost) November 12, 2025
I get it.
It's a New York Post link. It's supposed to be clickbaity.
But this is a real study published in Communications Earth & Environment that was conducted by researchers from the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) and the University of California, San Diego.
Per the new findings, the at-risk current in question is the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC, a 'conveyor belt of the ocean' that funnels warm water toward the ocean surface — from the tropics to the Northern Hemisphere.
This current, which includes the Gulf Stream that runs from the Gulf of Mexico to the US East Coast and across the Atlantic to Europe, helps maintain the mild climate of Europe, the UK, and the US East Coast.
The study stated that the source of this marine temperature regulator, the Greenland Ice sheet, is being thawed amid warming temperatures, causing meltwater runoff to leach into the North Atlantic — leading to stagnation.
The effect of the ice sheet warming is that it would cause the currents to slow, which would keep warmer water from reaching Europe.
Europe, especially northern countries like Iceland, the UK, and Norway, benefit massively from the current, which warms them significantly even though they are so far from the equator.
If the Gulf Stream slows, they might getting winters as harsh as Canada and the northern U.S.
'Winters would be more typical of Arctic Canada and precipitation would decrease, also,' Jonathan Bamber, a professor of Earth observation at the University of Bristol, told the Daily Mail.

(I can hear the Canadians laughing from here).
The problem is significant enough that Iceland just declared the slow of the current a national security risk, according to Reuters.
A potential collapse of AMOC could trigger a modern-day ice age, with winter temperatures across Northern Europe plummeting to new cold extremes, bringing far more snow and ice. The AMOC has collapsed in the past - notably before the last Ice Age that ended about 12,000 years ago.
'It is a direct threat to our national resilience and security,' Iceland Climate Minister Johann Pall Johannsson said by email.
Anyway, I'll be over here just enjoying life while the newest doomsday prediction sends the climate crazies into another round of unhinged frenzy!

That’s why it’s called climate change.
The problem with calling it climate change is this: if a warmer climate is caused by carbon, if a cooler climate is caused by carbon, then that becomes an unfalsifiable hypothesis and cannot be considered scientific.
BTW, Home Depot sells a cooler/warmer for your car for $99.
I was weaned on this story back in the early 70s.
Then came the ozone hole, then global warming.
Now the catch-all “climate change”.
But Bill Gates just said that has to go on hold for technocratic data centers.
So I guess we’ve gone full circle.
Not here in Florida......................😁
There are old Roman Era docks in western Europe made of concrete (they invented it) that are several meters under water, so only 2000 years or so we had some major ice sheets still covering parts of the northern part of the globe..............
😁🙄......................
I can see it being the most survivable Ice Age, evah. For good or ill...previous Ice Ages wiped out the wimps.

Well considering the previous ice age people had to contend with megafauna as well as the cold, you might be right.
Although the Sun will not be as bright as it currently is, there will be some days that the initial hurricane force winds will abate, and the temperatures rise above 25. Hopefully, your wind and solar panels withstand the cold and driving snow to give you power to raise your indoor crops.
What killed of the “wimps” at the end the previous Ice Age [ The younger Dryas Event ], was a comet strike with its debris raining down for the better part of a century.
I’m sure this could be stopped if we just paid more in taxes
