NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Abby Zwerner, the former Richneck Elementary School teacher who was shot by her 6-year-old student in 2023, has emerged victorious in her civil lawsuit surrounding the shooting.

A jury found Ebony Parker, the school's former assistant principal, grossly negligent in preventing the shooting.

Teacher was awarded $10 Million in damages. Incompetent DEI Assistant Principal did nothing when multiple teachers and staff told her that a known troublemaker, a 6 year old black student with a history of violent, disruptive behavior had brought a gun to school. No body search, no backpack search, no effort to isolate him. He then shot his teacher through her hand and in her chest, nearly killing her.

The boy's hood rat mother is in prison on charges stemming from this incident. Baby Daddy was unavailable for comment. The little thuglet now lives with his grandfather, who is trying to teach him how to behave. I predict prison is in his future nonetheless.

DEI Assistant Principal no doubt was reluctant to discipline the "good boy", who "dindu nuffin"...until he did.

My understanding was the “ebony” asst principal was the only defendant in the case. I pray the teacher gets her $10 million but I wonder where it’ll come from!

The Newport News School District’s insurance company will pay it. Unfortunately, the DEI AP isn’t personally liable despite having been found guilty of gross negligence. Such are the wages of “diversity” as a priority in hiring and promotion. DEI has many costs, none of which are recouped by the inevitable results of such foolishness.

This case seems strange to me. I don’t see the employer discussed in the lawsuit and I don’t see how anyone is gonna get 6 mil out of an assistant principle. I don’t know of any lawyer who would go through this trouble without a payday.

Two words: deep pockets. She was apparently in the course and scope of her employment, so the school district’s insurance company will pay (or it’s self-insured).

>> Presumably the taxpayers.

The news account I read a week ago said that the school district was released as a defendant, leaving only the asst principal to defend. Maybe she has insurance or maybe there’s union on the hook — no information, just guessing — but it looks like it’s just ol’ Ebony behind the 8 ball.

Where I live when a student threatens to kill a teacher, they just move the student to another school, but never tell the teachers why he was moved.

Every penny of that should be paid by the teachers’ union.
