A misconfiguration at Microsoft Azure caused massive, widespread outages today starting around noon ET.
https://azure.status.microsoft/en-us/status for details.
https://downdetector.com/ was on fire. It's getting better.
Yeah, at first I wondered if it was a cyber attack. (I'm in IT/Security, I have to think that way.)
But no... Never attribute to malice what can more easily be explained by incompetence or stupidity.
The great news embedded in your comment is that you had many millions that could be removed.
Look on the bright side!
It’s Microsoft.
It’s incompetence.
That was so surrealistic.
Ah. Thank you. I’ve been trying to get into our payroll provider for hours and not getting any help from its Indian tech support.
Some folks lack the genetic materials required to
‘become embarrassed while making a World Class FOOL out of themselves’. They just don’t feel it, as they act it out. Sort of like people who say they cannot feel pain.
But most of these ‘Shame-Free’ folks, do feel something ugly albeit much later, de facto.
Then, what should be labeled as ‘shame’ is felt as anger, and the compulsion to blame everybody around them, except for themselves. The late Sheila Jackson Lee was notorious for that, cursing her staff out for ‘letting her’ say something stupid.
That's certainly an accurate description.
I'm hoping that if Kamalaladingdong ever runs for any public office again, the opposition pulls that clip out and plays it non-stop, including her trademark drunk-cackle, on auto-loop.
Didn’t noticed it...
You are among the blessed.
Remember this day, for another day will surely come when you are not so blessed, and then there will be weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments. When that day comes, remember this day, and be grateful.
Everyone always says it was a configuration error. In Microsoft’s case it could be a configuration error caused by one of their gazillions of Chinese employees however.
Schrillary wiped it clean....like with a cloth.
So who signed off on moving this configuration change to production? Let’s check the move form....
Bill used a blue dress
For those of you who missed the background on my theory:
^^^Probably the most significant US/Chinese story of the last decade.
And two classics: “The Art of War” and “Unrestricted Warfare”
But to say the cloud is literally like the TV particles flying around overhead in Willy Wonka??
That’s just surrealistically stupid.
😳
I really didn’t know how to react.
Stunned silence seemed best, when I finally stopped waiting for a funny punch line.
Yikes.
You know... I’m sure you are right and it is indeed coming for all of us at some point. But I think we have options to delay it for quite awhile. First thing... Get off the indexed top layer... There is a whole lot of room in the middle Deep Web for alternative protocols without dirtying ourselves in the Dark Web and TOR protocol. But like Linux, it is like twisting teeth to get anyone to jump in. There is a whole undiscovered ocean out there just waiting to be explored without anyone telling us how to captain our own little ship.
To me, that's the surreal aspect -- you think she's lining up a joke, or a wry observation, but no, she's just rattling sh*t off the top of her head, kind of a broken stream of semi-consciousness. You're left wondering if you missed something, but no, you didn't.
There are so many of those instances captured for posterity. Someone with more free time than me should round them up and make a blooper reel. Except, of course, they aren't bloopers, they're the delivered end product.
Most of the systems I support are down due to this. We put up an Outage notice on the phones and I spent my afternoon taking really exciting training modules that HR has been pestering me to get done.
Who needs James Bond when you have “Data Protection in the Workplace” to watch?
I wouldn't call a 4 Trillion dollar valuation "incompetence"
