It’s fascinating how Halloween has become such a prominent holiday. When I was a kid, it was just a fun dress-up day for kids, with trick-or-treating and lots of candy — a rare treat back in the day. Now it’s become a major production, as much (or more) for adults as for kids. Do kids even go trick-or-treating any more? Could Halloween overtake Christmas?
Different people I know started decorating the first of September
We went trick or treating for 3 or 4 days. No fancy duds...just a Zorro Mask...

My thoughts exactly. What I see now is adults using Halloween as a excuse to party, get drunk and for women to wear skimpy costumes.
When 6 foot tall male trick or treaters started showing up at the door with voices deeper than mine I was out.
If that’s the way of it now fine, I won’t be participating.
Sure. It’s the perfect holiday. There’s no pressure to buy anything for anybody (maybe a bit for yourself, but hey, shopping for yourself is always more fun). No pressure to spend time with family members you don’t like. No religious significance (for some cultures it’s religion adjacent). You get to just have fun. And if you have enough fun all the right people get annoyed at you. What’s not to love.

In a land where people worship evil, sure.
Maybe it has something to do with having a large Hispanic population. In Mexico, they celebrate for a few days.
