I disagree with some here that music videos have “died”. In fact, I wonder how many views music vids on You Tube have had in just the last 10 years. The number has to be pretty astounding. And that’s just one source, tho’ it may be the biggest?

Granted that I don’t watch much of any “big view numbers” vids. My taste is more toward music not so much geared for the masses. It tends to be higher quality, IMO.

I liked MTV in the ‘80s. Then I forgot about it.

Who’s was the first country-music video to air on MTV?

Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking.

Plus, IIRC, if I watch a vid and then watch it again, unless the 2nd view is from a different IP address or YT account, that doesn’t count as another view.

Plus, there can be dozens of postings of the same tune, or variations of it (”Live in Hamburg”, “Live In Miami”, “remastered”, etc.), all with (likely) different video content.

Many times, views of creative vids by fans outnumber the views of “oFficial” releases / posts.

Music videos haven’t died, they’ve just evolved into something bigger, and in some ways, better.

Whenever I watch the AIC concert I can’t get those songs out of my head for days. It gets rather annoying.

Video is not even close to being dead. It is alive and well and kicking buttocks. They are simply available on streaming services, on demand. Don’t need to wait for MTV to play your video anymore.

As I pointed out, Take On Me has over 2 Billion views.

I remember being excited when I first heard about MTV. When it launched on my local cable service I was expecting concerts, vintage performances and exposées on venerable musicians.

Instead, I was greeted with foppish posers lip syncing banal pop tunes in poorly produced videos. It was boring. Lame. Tedious.
Except for Martha Quinn.

Yeah, Martha was a good one. MTV back in the beginning was so much fun. I haven’t watched it in decades though.
