Billionaire investor Ken Griffin has warned that some of the brightest students from countries like India might never make it to the US and that this could hurt the country’s future. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, the Citadel CEO said the real loss isn’t the $100,000 cost of an H-1B visa, but it’s when a talented student in India or a math and physics prodigy in China chooses to stay home instead of coming to the US.
“Fortunately, we’re in a sector of the economy where a $100,000 one-time cost to hire a person is not going to be make it or break it,” Griffin said. “I worry far more about the brilliant student in India who doesn’t come to America, or the gifted student in mathematics and physics that chooses to stay in China.”

Back in May, the Republican mega-donor Griffin said the US should hand out visas to foreign students graduating from American universities. “The key is that they need to stay here,” Griffin told an audience at the Milken Institute Global Conference. “It should literally be if you graduate from one of America’s great universities or graduate schools, you just get a visa stamp to your degree. Welcome to America. Stay here and build your career.”

The Citadel founder also pointed out that many lawmakers privately support retaining more international students after training, but the US fails to implement policies to make it happen.
“That one befuddles me,” Griffin said. “If I meet with members of the House or Senate, they almost always agree with that statement. I do not understand our unwillingness to embrace a path to citizenship for those who come here for their education.”

Ken Griffen will rot in hell one day.
“ Now, it seems all the bright people are Asian.”
You don’t really believe that? My God what happened to Free Republic?
At my daughter’s graduation from engineering school, 90+% of the advanced degrees in some departments went to Asian students, more South than East. How many of those were foreign students rather than Americans? Guessing more than half.
Pro-White Genocide clown who hates America.
Actually I do. I designed those systems.
I may be a “dinosaur” but I can still manipulate at
the machine code level and you cannot!
I have never worked in the NY/NJ metro but have done so in most of the other major metros. What you describe is what I have seen happen in the IT industry of those areas.
It’s a damn shame.
As a near victim, I can tell you that H1Bs are cheap foreign labor. Nothing else. There’s nothing worse than getting replaced by incompetent Indians. Indian H1Bs are basically indentured servants. Not to mention H1Bs are disgusting because of the overwhelming smell of curry.
And the other half were “legal” anchor babies.
It’s more important that the 55 million low-skill illegals go home, but we already have other legal paths for prodigies.
I’m not sure you read what I did - I read that Trump’s changes to the HIB Program aren’t going to hurt any businesses because, if the person is good enough, the cost is worth it...I’m not concerned for other Asian students (India is part of Asia) either....This still opens more doors for American students/workers.
Open up shop in India or China, Griffin. Your sole interest is on the bottom line and not the welfare of US students.
Far bigger pool with more above-average types making it over here, from cultures and schools that haven’t completely crashed their educational systems as we have here. Brains aren’t evenly distributed by country, and yes, some populations repeatedly score above ours.
Of course not. But those students will at least succeed from the lower-level schools and still contribute at a high level.
Not “cheap” foreign labor but also sociopathic management can treat them like garbage and they can’t leave without getting deported.
You’re correct. They’re not all Asian. There’s a white guy on our Math Olympiad team.
Von Braun?
Don’t kid yourself.
Yes, he passed on knowledge from his V-2 days.
But he admitted that he got a lot of his smarts from American Paul Goddard.
And don’t kid yourself in thinking he designed the still unmatched Saturn F1 rocket engines and a lot of the Apollo subsystems.
That was done by scores of hard working American engineers, most in their twenties, solving one problem after another.
Remember Apollo 13?
Didn’t see many of them genius Indian H-1Bers there, did you?
Consider the impact on our universities. It may break some of them.
But that’s just one of the benefits. There are others.
So many smart people yet they still crap in the streets and dump human remains in their water supply.
