US President Donald Trump’s decision to cap international undergraduate students to 15 per cent of a college, with no more than 5 per cent from any single country, has evoked sharp criticism from Telugu students, who form a considerable chuck from India seeking admission in American colleges.
Vishvanath Reddy, a student from Hyderabad who is pursuing his masters’ in the US, said “This is deeply unfair to international students. Immigrant students, especially from India, are the lifeblood of universities in the US. Trump cannot just put a five per cent cap on students belonging to a particular nationality. This will bring in a first-come-first-serve policy, essentially penalising talented students.”
Many international education experts warn that the move could greatly reduce the number of Indian students in US campuses, as India currently sends the largest number of international students.

They come in as students but do they stay students , in Canada they don’t stay students they work
Another disappointing factor in the 10-point memo is the insistence on foreign students aligning with American and Western values. Under the new rules, universities must screen foreign students for alignment with “American and Western values” and to share their records with US federal agencies.
"disappointing?" Its disappointing we were not doing this right from the very start. Why would we want Commies, Islamofascists and others who are opposed to Western Values? We have no need for such trash. We have too many of our own like that.
He also argued that the screening of students and sharing all the information about them with the departments could be a potential violation of privacy.
well there's a simple solution Sandeep. If it bothers you so, then DON'T COME. Its OUR country. WE will determine the conditions under which we CHOOSE to ALLOW you to come. You have no right to be here.
MIGA - Make India Great Again. Indians should put it on a hat and wear it. We are to busy in America to worry about their whiney complaints.
Has anyone seen my violin? I left it in a thimble and I misplaced the thimble!
Their arrogance is the worst.
If they don’t like it they can kick all the American students out of their schools and send them back to the USA!
Agree. Total bait and switch. Nobody is buying their gaslighting. Indian press is just covering for the total non-change of the H1B visa boondoggle. This will stop nothing.
In other news, I picked my nose again this morning.
So, when did an Indian citizen need an American dream?
My son said same at his engineering school - very very wealthy foreign, especially Indian and Chinese students. The parking lot for students was filled with high end Mercedes sports cars, BMWs, Porches, etc.
He said one Indian guy in his dorm - whose father owned a large company - went crazy b/c he could drink - he had an ID from India in Hindi that he said was accepted everywhere, no one ever questioned, even though he was underage - so he could buy all the liquor he wanted. I’m sure he eventually imploded...
India’s government ruined my Indian Dream of getting a subsidized education there, then a multi-million dollar job while their own people have to work at a scam call center. Why are those pikers holding me back? Waaah...
The horror, the horror.
They need to go back to India and make India great.
American universities for American students...seems fair to me.
