Yeah, I was playing around with ChatGPT just to see how effective it was in synthesizing and collecting information several years ago, so I think I asked it the 10 ten places to eat in Cody, Wyoming. Only the first restaurant was in Cody. The second and third were 2 hours away in Sheridan. Then, for 4-10 the AI spazzed out and included places in Casper, Cheyenne, etc. One place was a store and not even a restaurant.

I also had a twitter troll use ChatGPT to show me that Eric Clapton had long covid but never was vaccinated. It took me one second to find an article saying he WAS vaccinated with Astrazenica.

AI doesn’t work that well.

So sad to see many people being misled by AI and having trouble like this. I’m planning an excursion to Grand Fenwick myself, and know I won’t have any trouble like this because I learned about it in an old movie.

Artificial Intelligence isn’t very intelligent.

I live in Wyoming, and I’ve seen this myself with those useless “Top 10 places to ____” websites. It’s a hoot seeing it fantasize about all the eateries and things to do in places like Powder River (pop. 10) and Lost Cabin and Jeffries City. Anyone who actually shows up in those places expecting services is in for a bit of a letdown...

Yeah, I love Wyoming (dad’s side is from Billings and was staff at Yellowstone for years), and but most of Wyoming doesn’t have much. We stayed a night in Basin, WY and there was almost nothing there and everything closed at 8:00 PM. What really struck me is there was one single guy working the liquor counter at the local supermarket and all the single mothers would come in and try to seduce him lol.

Wow. This thread is only a few minutes old, and I’m the third person to mention Grand Fenwick (my post #10).

FReepers sure are an educated bunch!

Oh, you have just as many republicans that believe in the myth of “Artificial Intelligence”.

Ok, maybe not as many. Probably about a quarter. But they do believe in it.

And throw a fit when you don't.

It is almost a religion.

Every science fiction story about any kind of ‘AI’ tells us it’s not worth it. It will end in disaster.

The Forbin Project is an excellent example.

Dune series of novels is as well.

Asimov’s ‘Robot’ and ‘Foundation’ novels, also.................

I’m about to read “The Myth Of Artificial Intelligence” by Erik Larson.

I heard Larson on a podcast delineate the types of complicated algorithms people have named “Artificial Intelligence.”

Some of the examples of the pitfalls are hilarious. A junior member of a law firm uses AI for some of the research in a brief. The AI finds some previous cases and rulings that support the brief. The AI also created out of the either “other cases” to support the brief.

The junior member who uses this information will be looking for a job soon.

It all comes down to:

G.I.G.O.

Garbage In Garbage Out

I have read discussions here on Freerepublic about interacting with the an Ai, tweaking the back and forth, until the AI finally writes, responds with the truth. If you already know the truth, why do you need AI?

I typed in “global climate change hoax” into several AI. They all come back with “Deniers Refusing to believe the consensus.”

G.I.G.O

“AI doesn’t work that well.”

AI is MUCH more than just an internet chat box search engine.
