Two packed Delta jets “absolutely smashed” into each other on the runway at LaGuardia Airport Wednesday night, according to authorities and terrified passengers — destroying a plane’s nose and ripping off a large part of a wing.
The saga unfolded when the wing of an aircraft carrying 32 people that was departing for Roanoke, Virginia, suddenly collided with the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, with 61 people aboard just before 10 p.m., Delta said in a statement.
“Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit. We have damage to our windscreen and… some of our screens in here,” one pilot could be heard saying in air traffic control audio.
A huge part of a jet’s wing was also torn off.

I remember many decades ago when women were first becoming firefighters. I watched a Q&A on C-SPAN when someone asked how would a woman firefighter carry a man down the steps from a third floor apartment. The woman responded that it would be fine for the heavier man to be dragged by his feet down the steps because there was less smoke down near the floor. Yikes!
In addition, there was a time when people who scored the highest on the physical and mental tests became firefighters. Mostly more than 95% was required Then acceptance was according to being “qualified” which meant the correct skin color plus a 70% on the test. Even that wasn’t easy enough so they dumbed down the questions on the test.
I am very happy to see excellence being rewarded again. At least hopefully.
That could have been really bad if a fire had broke out.
I flew twice after 9/11 to use up my flight miles. Haven’t flown since Jun, 2002.

The reason things got worse is because the percentage of women and other minorities never really got as high as the implementers wanted or expected, so they began lowering “sexist” and “racist” standards.
Were the pilots also absolutely smashed before reporting for duty?

Makes you wonder if the pilots got their license in CA or NY and if they speak and read English .
