In India, some of the biggest jobs in tech come to you.
Graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (ITT), one of the country’s most prestigious universities, are recruited directly by Indian companies as well as American firms looking to lock down some of the world’s top talent in fields that will dominate the future, such as artificial intelligence and robotics.
Many of them also continue their studies in the United States, where India overtook China last year as the biggest source of foreign students. But policy decisions and other moves by the Trump administration, including the recently announced $100,000 fee for the H-1B skilled immigrant work visa, now have those graduates thinking twice about going to America.
“About 20 students are graduating from my department, and nearly 10 to 15 have a postdoctoral offer from the U.S.,” said Ajaykumar Udayraj Yadav, a materials science and engineering doctoral candidate working on energy storage systems, who is among the student volunteers at the Office of Career Services at IIT’s New Delhi campus.
“But the way they’re seeing the situation develop in the U.S., these students are unwilling to take them up,” he said.

U.S. tech leaders who once held H-1B visas include Satya Nadella, the chairman and chief executive of Microsoft; Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and its parent company, Alphabet; and Elon Musk.

“China welcomes outstanding talent from all industries and sectors around the globe to come to China, take root in China, and work together to advance human society,” foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told reporters in Beijing last month.

I sought help for an orthopedic surgery in southwest Florida.
All the doctors’ photos were displayed in the hospital’s lobby.
About one-third were wearing turbans!
(NOT the Sikh type—correctly pronounced “sick”.).
How about this: we end the H-1b.visa so you don’t have a choice. You’ll find an American doctor that meets your requirements.
We are being colonized. Am I the only one that sees this?
Legal immigration is ruining career paths in STEM and now medicine? Oh yeah our best and brightest will be turd chasers for our dark overlords. That’s what Mike Rowe told us is the way to go.
Much of India is overpopulated and water is scarce. Some Indian (dot) communities collect rainwater from their roofs and direct it to their wells and cisterns.
That solution is at hand for Americans, who are also suffering from overpopulation AND water shortages.
Desalination is expensive, when collecting water is cheap.
Change our “codes”.
It’s too bad India doesn’t provide an “American Dream” for Indian students. All of the raggedy ass countries want the American taxpayers to provide “american dreams” for their population.
OUT!
GET OUT!!!
Go to China and have tanks run you over.
Perhaps they can work on their Indian dreams - work on making their own country better.
You know - like better sanitation, clean water, healthy housing, pluralistic society with respect for laws and property of others...
Move it up from third-world to second-world status.
It is not America’s job to provide the American dream to Indians - especially not when it comes at the expensive Americans which it definitely does. If other countries wish to sell out their own people in favor of cheap foreign indentured servants, they are welcome to do so. We are sending the message loud and clear that if you do business in America, you need to employ American workers at American wages.
My doctor's children were all born here. They're 100% American.
I consider ALL Indians to be Dalits (Untouchables). They can go ahead and play their caste system all they want. As for myself, I consider THEM inferior and they should only be cleaning toilets (including Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai). /spit
Exactly. Nobody is opposed to taking the Elon Musks of the world. Believe it or not, I have come across a couple of Indian superstars. They really were brilliant and were excellent at what they did. We should absolutely want those two and I’m confident companies would have no problem coughing up the $100K to get them. They can add far more value than that. What we don’t want are hordes of cheap labor brought over to displace and undercut American workers - and that’s exactly what’s been going on for 35 years. It was a complete sellout to corporations. It never should have been allowed.
The fee alone is going to effectively end the abuse of the H1B program to bring over hordes of cheap labor. He’s allowed companies to keep the ones they have but those visas are 3 years max. Those people are going to have to go back unless a company wants to renew them and pay the fee. President Trump stopped the bleeding of American jobs by this program and is giving companies a maximum 3 year timeline to adjust by hiring Americans instead.
I have a lot of other things on my mind. India students moving here with countless family members doesn’t get on the plate today.
Indian anchor babies. That’s the plan.
If these students are as good as all these articles claim, $100,0000 would be less than 1 year’s salary so it would be worth it to keep hiring them. If it is not worth it to hire them for $100,000, then they are not worth hiring in the first place. What is happening now is they are hiring grunts to do the lowest le vel work for a fraction of what they would have to pay an American. (I am glad I work for a company that requires US Citizenship and does not hire non-citizens or even dual citizens.)
No doubt there will be some offshoring. There will also be additional hiring of Americans to replace them. We could always start slapping a tax/fee on companies that offshore just like we tariff foreign goods so as to "encourage" them to keep those jobs here in America and filled by Americans. If that shaves a point or two off their annual profit margin, that's just too damn bad.
at the expense of Americans, not at the expensive Americans. Ugh.
My heart bleeds. Now, make way for American workers by going back to India.
So effin what? BFD.
Go cry in your filthy Ganges.
Stay home and make India great, for once.
Let the USA worry about OUR young people and THEIR dreams.
I DGAGGDFF about the ignorant and worthless Indian School of Incompetence H-1B Low Wage Chamber of Effing Commerce Balance Sheet Hires.
