My daughter went to France for a semester and did not understand why we refrigerate eggs: "In France they don't refrigerate eggs...Why do we?"
I had to explain that we washed our eggs and they did not.

Yep. The Farm Market sellers around here never wash their eggs (I don't either) and in my many travels to Sunny Mexico years back, there were always eggs out on the counter for purchase in the Bodegas.
Lately, I have been lusting after a wooden egg rack for the kitchen. It would save some room in the fridge:
