Many artists said Nah, to footing the bill for a free concert that they had to pay for.
Both would be additional reasons to not pay any attention.
I'm so relieved. How horrible a thought that my precious rap crap might be replaced by some Swift bubblehead music.

I haven’t watched one single solitary NFL game for years ever since they kneeled during the anthem, and I will never watch one until they apologize which they still haven’t done.
I can’t find any evidence that performers used to pay to be the halftime performer for the super Bowl. There was a time the NFL struggled to get a show for halftime. It wasn’t until 1993 when Michael Jackson performed that the modern idea of a halftime show started.

My idea of a good halftime show is a marching band playing John Phillips Sousa tunes, traditional American anthems, and maybe the Colonel Bogey March. A pox on the pop culture garbage.
That said, the NFL is right to hold the line, because they don’t want to set a precedent. Anything they do for TS they will be asked to do by other performers. It would be a mistake to open that door.

I agree. Thanks to DVRs, TiVo, and cloud DVR I have never watched a SB halftime show or commercial. I’m all for some champion HS and College marching bands strutting their stuff. THAT I would watch.

When they have marching bands the TV cuts away to talk. Drum Corps International Champions would make for a good show. I cannot even think of a popular artist to recommend. Maybe Tower of Power.
