House of Guinness has sparked a furious backlash in Ireland just a day after it launched - with one real-life family member claiming bosses at the streaming giant 'got it all wrong'.
The gritty period drama, starring James Norton, Anthony Boyle and Louis Partridge, tells the story of the legendary family behind the world-famous brewery, set against the backdrop of 19th-century Dublin and New York.
However, the saga - which Netflix explains in the opening is 'inspired by true stories' - has come under fire in Ireland for its 'cliched' portrayal of the country's history, 'jarring' attempts by British actors at an Irish accent, and an 'invented' gay storyline.

The Guinness family were Anglo-Irish. Would they even have Irish accents?
That's like going to an Asian restaurant and complaining that the Peking Duck tastes like cat. Some things are just to be expected.
Was this produced by Disney?
Disney produced?..............
I watched 1 1/2 episodes. It sucks. IMO

Now I’m gonna HAVE TO watch an episode just so I can hear that. Lol!
I used to strongly dislike the Irish due to their sickening accents. Then I ran into real Irish people and listened to real Irish people on TV news shows and their accents were nothing like what is presented in movies.
I realized the Irish accent in movies is made up. It’s just another “Hollywoodism”. The list of Hollywoodisms is endless. Other examples are the moving of a car steering wheel rapidly from side to side to represent fast travel. Try it sometime on the freeway and see what happens. Another is the loud snapping sound when lights are turned on. Once you start looking for this stupidity, you will find this and other examples on just about any modern movie or TV show.
More than me. I made it about 15 minutes. Itโs horrible.
A bit like Yankees trying and failing miserably to affect a Southern accent. Welcome to our world, Oirish.
It was Netflix so you knew the Lavender Mafia would insist on there being a gay character in it. There must always be a gay character. Its holy writ at Netflix, Disney, etc.
I guess we should be thankful that they haven’t moved on to insisting there be a tranny in everything.
From AI:
The primary production company for the Netflix series House of Guinness is Kudos, with Stigma Films also listed as an associated production company.
What do you expect from a company with Obama on the board of directors.
How many of the Irish are played by black actors?
Well, if its on nutflix, pretty much a guarantee of some level of gay activity. Does it really add to the story? Likely not. The disclaimer the put in the intro should indicate if there will be deviant behaviour as well as language, smoking, drugs, nudity, normal(?)sex......
Oi!
And Michael Flatly.
He’s from Ahrland!

I was in Ireland for 2 weeks back in 2019. Dublin, Galway, Doolin, Adare and Ballinasloe. Mostly mild accents (although I had the accent as far as they were concerned). Never had a problem understanding anyone. I was in Scotland last year. That was a different story. No problem half the time. But other times you really had to zone-in and pay attention to keep up. A few times it was hopeless.
Did Netflix make any of the Guinness family members black?
