A lone shooter who opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility on Wednesday morning left agents with chilling messages explaining why their workplace was being targeted in the brazen attack.
The gunman, who initial reports described as a white male, shot himself after being confronted by responding officers on a nearby rooftop. He used a sniper rifle in the attack, according to ICE Director Todd Lyons.
At a press conference, FBI Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock said the Dallas, Texas detention center was likely targeted because the shooter had a deeply-held animosity for ICE.
“What I can also tell you is that early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” he explained.
The shooting is the second to unfold at a Texas ICE facility this year. On July 4, a group of assailants stormed an ICE facility near Fort Worth, wounding one employee in the neck. A dozen suspects were arrested in connection with the coordinated attack.
On Wednesday, the attacker’s playbook seemed eerily familiar.
“This is just the most recent example of this type of attack,” Rothrock added.
Earlier that morning, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X that the shooting resulted in “multiple injuries and fatalities” and also confirmed that the shooter took his own life. Later reports confirmed that at least one person is dead and three others were wounded.
“While we don’t know the motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop,” Noem said. “Please pray for the victims and their families.”
Images from the scene showed a heavy police presence, with dozens of vehicles flashing their lights and cordoning off the facility, which sits less than 30 minutes outside downtown Dallas.
Fox News reported that the shooting occurred when detainees were being brought into a port of the facility, where the gunman was able to strike at least three people.
Also this year, a gunman was killed after storming the offices of the U.S. Border Patrol before being shot and killed.
President Donald Trump and immigration authorities have accused Democratic politicians of inciting violence against ICE officers by referring to them as Nazis and “Gestapo” soldiers.
“You impede a federal ICE officer, you’re going to jail,” border czar Tom Homan said in July after DHS reported a 700% increase in threats against ICE agents.
“You put hands on an officer, you’re going to jail. You knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien, you’re going to jail. You throw a rock at an ICE officer, you’re going to jail. You damage a government vehicle, you’re going to jail. This s**t stops now.”
“I said, if the rhetoric continues against ICE officers in the Border Patrol, there will there will be bloodshed.” Homan added. “When you got senators and congressmen comparing ICE to Nazis, racists, Gestapo. It’s just never-ending, and when an average citizen hears that kind of language from a member of Congress, they feel, you know, the nuts on the left… they feel emboldened.”

The media influenced shooter shot into an ICE van. The nutcake shooter got it all wrong, shooting illegals and himself without harming any agents.
Dang, that’s record time for a motive finding. Some findings of motives take months or years or sometimes ‘we may never know’.

Cabellas the out going military sniper rifles are all Remington 700 in 308 or 300 Win mag. The M40 and M24 both were in 308, with the Army also using 300 Win mag before having the 338 Lapua specificity developed for their sniper needs. Cabellas will gladly sell you a Ruger Precision in 338 Lapua mine is from the Cabellas in Fairview where this kid lived BTW it was $3000 plus $2500 for the Leopold glass on top. It’s every bit of a military grade sniper system. I have shot it into 24” steel at 2000 meters backed up by doppler radar and tripod mounted spotting telescopes. Plus active video via long range data comms right at the target zone. My buddy owns a facility that trains operators to shoot these types of platforms at 2000+ meters for a slew of alphabet groups.
So yeah you can walk right into a major sporting goods store and buy if you have the cheddar a real sniper system right out of the box.

While in the Corps I at one point carried the M40 it’s a Remington 700 in 7.62x51 that will also shoot commercial 308 rounds. The Army uses until very recently the M24 also a Remington 700 but the long action version so they could also shoot 300 win mag with the same platform and triggers.
The military moved to the M110 while I was on the way out that’s a DPMS AR10 based platform again in 7.62x51. While SOCOM and the various other dev type groups when to precision rifles in 338 Lapua. The Barrett M82 and later the M107 are the 50 BMG anti material rifles we had M82A1s in my unit for long distance work.
You can walk into Cabellas in Fairview where this kid lived and buy a Ruger Precision in 338 Lapua for a round $3000 top it with Leopold glass sold from the counter next to the rack of those Rugers and take it to a 1000 yard outdoor range and get to work. Break the barrel in with 50-100 slow fire rounds until you can get a cold barrel first round hit at 1000 that’s your starting point. From there you can work that Lapua out to 2000+ meters. This is out of the box grade rifles there is nothing magical about a military
sniper rifle it’s simply a factory rifle that the factory took the time to upgrades the trigger, freefloat the barrel and put a 5R rifling on it threaded for a can or huge muzzle brake is stock now too.
It’s not the tool. It’s the person driving the bolt. Any regular shooter with modern precision rifles can connect regularly at 500 to 800 and not even need to dial dope into the scope. The mildots give you the hold out to 900 or 1000 depending on the BC of the bullet.

Fancy words often used in the 1960s to describe a scope sighted hunting rifle. There were attempts back then to make rifle scopes illegal.
From the looks of the ammo clip shown it would be a US Springfield 1903 rifle, maybe a US Enfield .
If one wants to purchase new the exact rifle the shooter used, just get in your Time Machine and set the controls to 1934-45 Germany.
