Vietnam and now Thailand….anyone seeing a trend? The EU is not to far behind….the EU with all their massive rioting is preparing the same by years end…total control and surveillance. There will be in the end no “ choice” as they abolish cash.
https://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/digital_euro/html/index.en.html
“We are working with the national central banks of the euro area to look into the possible issuance of a digital euro. It would be a central bank digital currency, an electronic equivalent to cash. And it would complement banknotes and coins, giving people an additional choice about how to pay.”

While not strictly required for short-term tourists, it is highly recommended for expats and long-term residents in Thailand to open a local bank account to handle daily expenses, pay rent, and avoid high foreign ATM fees. A Thai bank account is also a requirement for most long-term visas and offers greater convenience through local payment systems like PromptPay

When my family lived there, the Baht was worth five US cents.
A one dollar US bill would get you twenty Baht.
A one hundred dollar US bill would get you the equivalent of $150 in Baht. That was on the street, not at legal money exchanges.

Interesting.
Used to work with a hard-core Libertarian Paulestian type guy who retired and moved to Thailand. He used to brag about what a libertarian mecca Thailand was.
Wonder how he's doing these days...
