Robert Redford, the longtime Hollywood icon and star of classic films such as 1969's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and 1985's Out of Africa, has died. He was 89. "Robert Redford passed away on Sept. 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved," Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowan PMK, tells PEOPLE in a statement. "He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy."

The Captain America star became a political activist in his later years and was outspoken in his views against the president. Penning a column for NBC News back in 2019 during Trump’s first term, he didn’t mince words as he described what he called “a dictator-like attack by President Donald Trump on everything this country stands for.”
“We’re up against a crisis I never thought I’d see in my lifetime: a dictator-like attack by President Donald Trump on everything this country stands for. As last week’s impeachment hearings made clear, our shared tolerance and respect for the truth, our sacred rule of law, our essential freedom of the press and our precious freedoms of speech — all have been threatened by a single man,” he wrote, discussing the first Trump impeachment.
Trump was impeached in 2019, prompting Redford to write the scathing NBC News column
“It’s time for Trump to go — along with those in Congress who have chosen party loyalty over their oath to ‘solemnly affirm’ their support for the Constitution of the United States. And it’s up to us to make that happen, through the power of our votes,” he continued.
Later in the column, Redford wrote that the situation playing out in America at the time was “deeply disturbing,” harping on the divided nature of the country — a nature that has only gotten worse over the past six years.
“We’re at a point in time where I reluctantly believe that we have much to lose — it is a critical and unforgiving moment. This monarchy in disguise has been so exhausting and chaotic, it’s not in the least bit surprising so many citizens are disillusioned,” he wrote.
He then called on the American public to vote for what’s right and “change the course of disaster that lies before us.”
“But this is it. There are only 11 months left before the presidential election; 11 months before we get our one real chance to right this ship and change the course of disaster that lies before us,” he wrote.
Good riddance.

I seem to think I might have seen it. Although I can’t remember. Sometimes all these movies end up kind of blurring together and don’t stand out like others.
Kind of like “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”
Of course, there have been times that I fell asleep during movies.
I just rewatched “Hostiles” with Christian Bale and Rosemund Pike. About a frontier woman settler and a US Calvary Captain on his last mission that meet in the NM/CO area in 1892. It was a very well acted movie with several great supporting actors too.
Frankly, EVERY movie with Christian Bale in it is worth watching IMHO. He is the best actor of our time.

Much like teachers, a Hollywood actor/actress will have limited success if they are on the right side of politics. Then they are captured in the bubble of the hive mind of the left.

It is a very powerful movie with a stunning ending.

I can always separate the artist from the art. He was an excellent actor, director and producer. I enjoyed his movies very much and will make a point to watch mire over the next few days as a tribute to in screen talents. If that pisses people off then screw ya.

I used to think that and present person aside, dying doesn’t change what you were. People earned the right to an opinion about someone when they were alive, dying doesn’t take those feelings away or in anyway obligate silence. However it is better to remain silent than celebrate death.
