Gun used by Tyler Robinson
N/A | N/A | Self

Posted on 09/14/2025 11:45:51 AM PDT by Falcon4.0

Have they ever released a photo of the Rile used by Tyler Robinson?
I recently inherited a Mauser from WWII, and I'm confident that the one he used was not that style,
but I am curious as to how he carried it due to it's length.
They don't seem to be easily dis-assembled.
Was the stock cut down?

What I saw was a typical Frankensteined Bubba Special.

Yeah, I had a problem with the scope mounting. I wonder if the eye relief was correct, or if the installer was an idiot.

See the picture in #17. It is hard to put a scope on a rifle not designed for one. Getting the casing to clear the rifle and the scope is difficult.

It costs a lot of money for a long-eye-relief scope, too. So, its cheaper to push the scope back, than it is to have it ahead of the ejection port.

At least, that is my take.

Carcano was the rifle that took down JFK. Oswald’s range, though, was between about 40 and 75 yards.

German wartime Mauser, either the 1898 (WWI) or K98 (WWII) were usually chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser, commonly referred to as 8mm Mauser.

However we are told the killer used a 30-06. If it was a Mauser it was likely manufactured as a post-war or modern civilian hunting rifle, would be my guess.

Germany used turned-down bolt handles in their issued military rifles. There were probably others.

I bought a Yugo SKS back in the 90s, cheep.
Not a single numbered part matches another, but it is still accurate, reliable and low recoil.

Would you say that is a poly or a dark wood stock?

The sniper rifle used in “Saving Private Ryan” was a US 1903
military rifle fitted with a scope.

During the 1950’& 60’s many Mauser Karabiner were refitted to fire 30.06 cal and sold in the U.S.
Please note that many bolt action rifles on the market today still use the Mauser action.

The previous generation of gunsmiths modified old surplus Mausers and Springfields by the thousands. The goal was to make a cheap, rugged, hunting rifle. Since I never heard of a Mauser chambered in 30-06, this was likely one of those custom builds from long ago.

I say long ago because today, an original un-tampered with military rifle is worth much more than one that got “sporterized” with a shorter stock, scope, custom chambering, etc..

Old sporterized guns sell cheap now since the workmanship of the long ago craftsman is unknown. You can buy a lighter, more accurate hunting rifle out of the box right now cheaper than you can have another military based sporter built.

Historically the media will refer to any bolt action rifle as a "Mauser action" - doesn't mean it is literally a Mauser. Could be anything - Remington, Winchester, CZ, etc.

Not going to guess, the photo lighting is about as bad as it can get.

>Yeah, they’re all ‘mausers’
I think you would be safe in saying that.
Sylvester Cat was a mauser too.

“ It seems the recoil of a .30-06 would drive the ocular back into your eye (I know someone who had this happen).”
I was elk hunting with dad and grandad back in the 70’s when I was 14. We were way back in CO mountains hunting elk. One morning we passed through a campsite of two city slickers that had no business being in the wild. They had failed to put up their tent, didn’t know how. One of the guys had the tell tale ring cut around his eye by the scope due to improperly holding the rifle.
Dried blood all over his face. Those guys probably never went to the woods again.

Unless it was a Savage 110 with the removal barrel.

My question is what caliber bullet actually struck Charlie Kirk?

Also, A Savage 110 is not a "takedown" rifle. You're not getting the barrel off that gun without a vise and a barrel nut wrench.

K98, the main German rifle used in WWII, had the bolt turned down. There are only a few rifles after the beginning of WWII that had a straight bolt.

If you take a look at the photo the scope is mounted as far back as possible. Why?

It has been explained elsewhere that there is a video of the rifle being dropped 15' from the rooftop as the supposed shooter was fleeing. A drop that far could have caused the scope to slide back in the rings, especially if the rings weren't initially tightened properly. In addition, you can also see where the slide of the front ring was stopped by the objective bell of the scope, thus causing the front ring itself to slide backward.

It is hard to put a scope on a rifle not designed for one. Getting the casing to clear the rifle and the scope is difficult.

Mauser’s claw extractor and blade ejector are good at throwing brass out to the side.

Have you ever fired a weapon. People use .30-06 all the time with scopes hunting in Alaska, among other calibers. Anyone who has the ocular driven back into his eye is holding the weapon wrong.
