You aim for a spot on a vertical line. Windage usually takes care of itself, but range estimates can be off. Additionally, shooting at an angle will raise point of impact. Pick a spot where impact 6” high or low will also be fatal. On a deer, that’s behind the shoulder, middle of the torso.
Did the shooter know that Charlie wore body armor? I’ve heard that he hit an armor plate, and a piece of the spalled bullet cut Charlie’s carotid artery.

I’m sure he was aiming for either the head or the chest. Head shot is stupid but is in all the movies - bullet could have dropped more than he thought. Chest shot and he jerked it up when he pulled the trigger.
