I’ve seen Clapton play it (1974). It’s him.

The slide guitar is Duayne, I believe all the other guitars are Clapton. Duane played a lot of slide on the Layla album.

Yeah, Dwayne Allman did a lot of the slide work on that song.

It is a masterpiece up there with stairway to Heaven as far as I’m concerned and it belongs to Eric Clapton, Derrick and the dominoes

“Eric” became “Derek” for that one album and specifically for that one track, “Layla”.

I saw Derek/Eric in Cincy when Santana was the opening act.

Afterwards, Derek/Eric came out, strapped his guitar on, plucked a few strings.

Then, after a few silent moments, went into “Layla” - it was amazing and electric!
