VALRICO, Fla. - Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that Florida is establishing a Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission at the state level.
The governor’s announcement came at a news conference in Valrico on Wednesday morning.
The initiative mirrors that of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the federal level.
Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo made a second announcement on behalf of the state during Wednesday’s news conference, saying that the Florida Department of Health will work with DeSantis to end all vaccine mandates in the state.
"Every last one of them," Ladapo repeated several times as the audience at Grace Christian School gave him a standing ovation.
Florida currently has a requirement that kids in public and private schools must be vaccinated against things like measles, polio, tetanus and chicken pox.
Ladapo said the effort to end vaccine mandates is all about supporting individual rights and informed consent.
"It’s wrong. It’s immoral. They do not have the right to tell you what you put in your body. They don’t have the right to tell you what your kids have to put in their bodies. They do not have the right. Do not give it to them," Ladapo said.

Agreed! Nobody has the right to force a shot on anybody. Being well informed on the vaccines that actually work and have proven track records is preferred

That excludes covid shots then.....the primary reason we never got one is we knew they weren’t tested thoroughly enough.....and then people started getting sick all over the place FROM the shot......I’ll never get one.
HOORAY Governor DeSantis! Getting shot mandatory? Even a shot in the arm is like Russian roulette.
All while the LEFT COAST digs in their heals. Look in the dictionary under, Vile: Corrupt: Dictator: and Thief: you will see Oregon, California and Washington.
"The Florida Department of Health is working with the DeSantis administration to “end all vaccine mandates” in Florida law, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced Wednesday."
I was at my health care providers yesterday for an eye check up - they were pushing the flu shot. I asked about COVID (I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER COVID SHOT) - they said they "didn't have it" and "weren't sure when/if they were going to get the latest COVID boosters" - made me wonder if the COVID vax is going to quietly go away...
While I believe there should be complete disclosure about the vaccines, I do not agree with ending the mandates. I am old enough to remember the polio epidemics in the 1950s when my parents were very concerned about me even going outside during the summer, let alone being in places like public swimming pools are amusement parks were large numbers of kids would gather. When the first Salk vaccine was available I and my siblings were immediately vaccinated. When the more effective Saban oral polio vaccine became available people lined up to receive it in mass clinics.
My father was a small town doctor and could recount whole families dying of diphtheria or a local farmer dying of tetanus from a cut. While having measles, mumps and chickenpox were a right of passage for kids in my generation and were considered just a simple childhood illness, they had lasting health effects including an increased susceptibility to shingles as older adults.
Give the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants from parts of the world where even polio has not been eradicated, dropping the vaccination requirements for school kids could have serious consequences. I would hate to see a return of polio crippling another generation of kids.
Even without mandates I think most parents will vaccinate their children (even if not per the full CDC schedule) and there will not be a huge increase in communicable disease outbreaks. Despite the recent fearmongering over measles.
However what I predict is this. A disability rights group of parents will sue under the ADA claiming that their disabled children are being denied an education (which is guaranteed by the Florida Constitution) because their vulnerability to certain diseases means they cannot safely attend school unless they know other children are immunized. It will be pointed out that some of these children are not able to be vaccinated themselves. A judge will certainly rule against the DOH and DeSantis.
If that happens what the legislature should do is turn back the clock to the 1960’s and only require those immunizations which really protect against a public health threat such as measles, German measles, polio, TB, diphtheria, pertussis. Those vaccines have a long history of being safe. No need for Chickenpox, HPV, HepB, Mumps, Covid, Flu, and whichever other ones have been tacked on over the last few years. Go back to making the measles and rubella vaccinations separate shots and scrap the MMR.
“Governor DeSantis announces Florida MAHA Commission, vows to end all vaccine mandates”
and naturally, the west coast states are in the process of doing the very opposite ...
