Months before his first class at Carlow University, Lee, a 17-year-old in Pennsylvania, found himself without a provider.
On a summer day, Lee sat waiting in a doctor’s office, playing GamePigeon on his phone, telling family stories with his mom and deciding where to get dinner.
It seemed like an ordinary afternoon, yet the reason for Lee’s appointment was far from ordinary.
Lee, 17, was there because the UPMC health system, headquartered in Pittsburgh, had cut off the gender-affirming care he’d been receiving for two years — a change driven by a federal executive order. A pharmacy mix-up meant his final puberty blocker shot never came, and the “weaning off” period his doctor had promised vanished. Within a month, he was experiencing hot flashes he hadn’t felt since starting treatment.Lee was devastated when he learned he could no longer receive treatment. “You feel like you’re starting from rock bottom,” said Lee, who plans to start classes at Carlow University this month.
The sudden disruption of care brought national policy directly into Lee’s home. On June 30, UPMC cut gender-affirming care for patients under 19 citing compliance with a January executive order from President Donald Trump. However, the care remains legal in Pennsylvania, and critics say the decision was less about the law than about protecting federal funding. A UPMC spokesperson said while they “empathize deeply” with impacted patients, the Trump administration has made it “abundantly clear” they can “no longer provide certain types of gender-affirming care without risk of criminal prosecution.”UPMC’s move mirrors a broader trend. Major health systems — from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to Penn State Health — have also ended gender-affirming care for minors.

I have always found it curious (it would be amusing if it were not deadly serious) that liberals seem to think that Orwell’s “1984’ is what the world of conservatives would be like if conservatives had their way.
The reality is, liberals are the ones who attempt to shape and control the meaning and use of words and symbols in an effort to shape and control thought.
They constantly appropriate symbols and words to use to their own ends.
And they leverage it for all it is worth.
They shape and change the meaning of words (especially with respect to sex and race) so that at any given time, as a tool to keep their opponents (who will not be privy to the constant shifting of words, or meaning) and can constantly castigate them as racists or sexists for using the “insensitive”, “outdated”, or “incorrect” term at any given point in time.
And we have played along with them for a long, long time.
I take from it that a normal female who has their estrogen levels suppressed by injections of testosterone can experience hot flashes when the testosterone is stopped.
They mention it as a given in the “article”.

It's not confusing. Those "protests" with queers yelling, "We're here, we're queer" inform my view. Queers, by their own blather.
Which brings to mind a pun on a biblical verse, employing a different word still in use today, "By their fruits you will know them."
As much as I detest Leftists, I do find it fascinating to watch their unapologetic pretzel logic in matters such as these…
They have no self awareness or shame, but we knew that already.
They don't really believe black lives matter, otherwise they would be putting a great deal of efforts into stopping the violent crime in our major cities:
They don't believe women's rights are human rights, other wise they would not support a policy that ends the lives of potential women before they are even born;
They don't believe that no human is illegal, otherwise they would open their homes to illegal aliens instead of using taxpayer money and funds to support their trespassing into the US:
Science is real? They don't believe biology is not real, but they claim climate science is. But they don't want you to know the truth;
They do not believe that love is love, otherwise they would not conflate sex with love;
Kindness is not everything to them. They treat anyone who thinks differently than them with hate and contempt.
