By stepping down, or seeming to, but using Martial Law to support the DOJ prosecutions, they maximized stability and the Deep State kind of thought it won because they thought prosecution would take too long to ever work during a long period of instability and Trump made a show of stepping down to avoid Civil War (remember him looking at Abe Lincoln's portrait when contemplating challenging the election).

During the Biden Regime. It was clear China would have filled the capital with 'Peace Keepers' if not disuaded from doing so. Our enemies were as afraid of the operation of the mighty American military even when a controlled puppet and his puppeteers 'ran' the government (or seemed to).

But back to my point -(and I do have one); I never understood how 'The Plan' for Trump to remain in control during the Biden regime would work unless Putin knew key parts of it.
Biden was pretending he had the nuke football and had the ability to send Ukraine obsolete military hardware, but they could never send what they needed to send to fuel NATO's proxy war against Putin. Globalist enemies expected to use our arsenal against Putin and what they got instead was ancient retrofitted 'Block C' air craft which some mil FReepers said was junk which we were fortunate to get rid of. They did get Himars, but never the launchers which would launch them deep into Russia. They did receive defensive weapons and hardware (air defense) because the President doesn't want Ukrainian civilians to die.
As I've said before, I believe on Jan 20 Biden's team raced to get control of the nuke football as if Trump were chasing them, only to meet lawyers at the Pentagon who explained that they would not have possession of it. Likely they were told at that point President Trump was Commander in Chief, martial law was in effect and the limitations on the power and access they were permitted.
Based on the fact that Biden stumbled into the Presidency and what his regime was saying and doing (posturing to send more advanced weapons, nuke armed aircraft etc.) to destroy Russia, Putin weathered the threats and attacks without actually escalating to an extreme degree. He demonstrated he knowledge of the scale of weaponry would be used against him. He likely knew part of The Plan (he's not really a 'friend' of the US as much as he was party to actions to protect Russia). He must have been advised that President Trump would step down before it happened, and he knew Biden wouldn't have nukes or top flight weapons.

I think the pivotal moment came when Putin and Trump met in private at the Helsinki. The men talked alone far longer than expected and Melania was sent in to invite them to dinner. The men didn't leave and Melania had to return to the G7 attendees and explain they needed more time. That must have freaked out our intel and G7 intel - Russia is supposed to be the big, bad enemy. I think Trump explained the part of the Plan which would impact Russia's perception and decision making to prevent nuke war in Ukraine. Later Putin said of Trump that he was not at all as he is portrayed in the Media; among his comments he praised President Trump as 'insightful'. Putin seemed stunned in a positive way
