A renewed investigation into the unsolved 1967 murder of the wife of McNairy County, Tenn. sheriff Buford Pusser debunks what has for decades been depicted in movies and implicates the long-dead lawman in his wife’s shooting. The sheriff, who died in a 1974 car crash, long said Pauline Pusser went with him on a call on Aug. 12, 1967 when a car pulled up alongside them and shots were fired, killing her and leaving Buford shot in the face.
She was 33.
The scene was depicted in the 1973 movie “Walking Tall,” with Buford Pusser depicted by Joe Don Baker. The movie spawned sequels and remakes. Baker died earlier this year at age 89.

No sweat. It is always revealing to see how FReepers handle simple stupid mistakes which we all make.
Some obfuscate out of pride and will go to enormous lengths not to admit they were wrong.
Others will acknowledge it which is the right thing to do and reveals good character.
Well done.
If there is one thing I can’t stand in this life... It is historians who try to re-write established history.
Good example... Watch the series King and Conquer. It depicts the well known and historically recorded accurate facts leading up to 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. The well established fact is this... King Harold was killed by an arrow that struck him in the eye... Some, not all of course, but some of today’s supposed ‘historians’ claim that story isn’t true... They claim (with no actual historical data to back it up) that King Harold was instead stabbed to death and that the whole ‘arrow to the eye’ scenario was created for propaganda purposes by William the Conquer and that the scene depicted in the Bayeux tapestry which was created within a few years after the battle of Hastings isn’t correct.
That is absolute nonsense... King Harold was killed by an arrow to his eye... Just like the Bayeux tapestry depicts it... To claim or say otherwise is complete BS.
Same thing with this good man... He did not kill his wife and those who say he did are full of sh*te!
I wonder how well my facts and timeline would be remembered after taking 2 shots to the face with a 30 caliber weapon?
But there is probable cause to believe Pauline’s death was not an accident, not an act of chance, but .. an act of
intimate deliberate violence.”
Being murdered by gun shot is neither an accident nor anything but a "deliberate violence."
100% BS, he needed facial reconstruction surgery and long periods of recover.

Buford shot his wife, and then shot himself in the face? Does that really seem likely? Not something I could have done.
______
There was Charles Stuart who shot himself in the gut after shooting his wife...nearly died...threw himself off a bridge after his brother was going to come forward.
So who are these witnesses who have knowledge of the Pusser murder?
She also unplugged the phone so if he somehow survived he could not call for help.
It was cold blooded murder. Said so at the time.
There was no hickory stick. The author got that from Pusser using a switch to whip a drunk. There was no sawmill and Pusser's dad was a bootlegger. If you bought from him you were a good guy. If you bought from the competition Pusser would break your back. Etc.
“ I most remember the beautiful brunette, Brenda Benet, who asked Pusser for a light at the bar...she had a excellent rack. In a really weird real life twist, Benet married the actor Bill Bixby in the mid 70’s. They had a son together but separated. In early 1981, Benet hired a then 17 year old Tammy Bruce, yes the gay conservative commenter thats now in the Trump administration, as her “assistant”. The 2 then proceeded to have a lesbian affair. Benets son soon died from some type of infection. She got very depressed and committed suicide..Tammy Bruce was the person that found her body. Just some little, odd facts.”
And before Bill Bixby, her first husband was “My Dad” singer, Paul Peterson . . .
“I’d go back to 1974 in a heartbeat.”
Yeah me too! I would buy up every muscle car I could find! They were pennies on the dollar back then.
I have(had) a cousin who was a retired Tennessee highway patrol, he died about 15 years ago. His district covered McNairy county and he was there during the 60’s and 70’s when Pusser was sheriff so he knew him well. His opinion was that Pusser was a crook, he’d chuckle when asked about the movie and tell you that it was mostly BS. He said Pusser did not have a good working relationship with the highway patrol and would rarely co-operate with them. I have no personal knowledge since I wasn’t there, but if L.J. said it I take it as gospel that it was true.
Yes, and let’s not forget… he was in the midst of massive corruption in that county in the courts and in law enforcement. That was most assuredly on his mind when he was giving his statement that he might not be able to fully trust the situation he was in. This was not a clean safe moment like in some modern CSI episode. And also remember, he might have kept a fact or two to himself because HE knew who did it and wanted to settle it himself.
He didn’t do it.
Don’t buy it at all

Thank you for that. I try not to fall into the camp of the negative mindset here of late.
