Did she support it or did she begrudgingly go along with it while making it clear to him she didn’t support it? Both of those could look the same from a distance and without knowing the inner workings of their relationship. Apparently the killer mentioned his mother’s lack of support as motivation for his actions.

If true, then as a parent she sucks. Children ruling their homes isn’t really their fault when the parents allow it.

Maybe but that’s a different issue. The question here is whether she was a crazy lefty mom who wanted him to transition or a more traditionally minded mom who actually opposed it. Her attitude towards his gender confusion puts her avoidance of the police in a different light depending on which side she was on.
