Video: How the Democratic Party Formed - From Jackson to Today (2 minutes)
Take a satirical, no-holds-barred look at how the Democratic Party went from Andrew Jackson’s “common man” roots to the modern political force it is today. From 1828 to the present, this comedic parody hits the big moments, the big scandals, and the big shifts that shaped American politics.

It is the Democrat Party. Barely (or not at all) related to democracy. Sort of like calling some Arabs “Palestinians”.
If he doesn’t begin and end with the Missouri Compromise and Martin Van Buren’s effort to protect and preserve slavery, as documented by top Jackson biographer Robert Remini and laid out nicely in Richard Brown’s article, “The Missouri Crisis, Slavery, and . . . .’ then it probably isn’t accurate.
I deal with the formation of the DemoKKKrat Party here, “Seven Events that Made America America,” chapter 1.
The D and R parties overlap and are a mixture of many things.
The main difference between them over history is this:
The Democrats think that the government is the solution more so than the Republicans. The problem may change but the solution is the same.
The Republicans think that private action, mostly individual action, is the solution. The problem may change but the solution is the same.
Slavery? The government must enforce slavery.
Poverty? The government must wage war on poverty.
Inequality? The government must enforce equality.
Its DEMOCRAT Party...NOT Democratic.
