Taylor Swift’s ‘New Heights’ Debut Signals Future Of Sports Podcasts
Forbes ^ | Aug 15, 2025 | Nicole Kraft

It was quite possibly Taylor Swift’s most intimate and organic interview—and it all happened on a sports podcast.

Swift was the guest Aug. 13 on “New Heights,” hosted by Jason Kelce and his brother, Travis, who is, of course, Swift’s boyfriend.

Attracting 13 million YouTube views within a day and another 400 million views from social media clips, the episode marked a milestone for video podcasting and showed the platform has transcended its conventional space.

It was a power move from one of America’s most powerful celebrity couples. The rarely interviewed Swift broke major news about herself—from her upcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” to insights about the pair’s relationship, along with reflections on her Eras Tour and how she felt regaining possession of her song catalogue...She also talked football, offering her views on coverage schemes, drafting tactics and player strengths…

The episode…proved that sports podcasts going beyond Xs and Os can become a mainstream cultural touchstone.

The Swift and podcast eras concurrently launched in the mid-2000s. Apple’s release of the iPod and the rising availability of RSS feeds opened the door for the delivery of high-quality MP3 files on demand to personal devices. Swift released her self-titled debut album in October 2006, around the same time ESPN began re-releasing radio shows like “Mike & Mike” and “The Dan Patrick Show” as downloadable, conversational episodes.

The show’s blend of sports, entertainment and personal storytelling isn’t just a winning formula for one episode on one night. Instead, it’s evidence of where sports podcasting is going.

If “New Heights” is any indication, the most successful shows moving forward will do more than break down players and games; they will redefine sports as part of a larger cultural and societal conversation.

I would bet more than a dime. Have two teen daughters who have more than noticed.

One thing that seems to get lost is that at the end of her recent ERAS tour, she gave all 1,970 members of her crew, right down to the caterers and security guards, every single one, $100,000 each, for a total of $197 million.

Taylor Ditz articles should be banned on freep. Do you forget this ditz supported Mr. Dementia then Junkie Jezebel for President, told her millions of ton deaf fans to vote for them. Thank God she failed.

Eventually yes the youngsters will stop buying her new albums. But big deal. There’s enough oldsters in her fan base to keep her selling out arenas until she doesn’t feel like doing it anymore. Metallica are in their 60s and sold out many of the same arenas for the same number of nights at Swift. And of course she still might get another generation, look at the Stones. And if she never sells another record or ticket, she’s freaking rich. So, whatever.

Quote: “ Swift has already set the record for pop star longevity by leaps and bounds. Each additional year is just gravy.”

And I salute her music career. I would rather have her as someone my kids listen to than some of this other filth.

But her career as a political influencer? Ask Stern how that one goes.

It’s different for women performers, though. As I say, their fanbase eventually becomes old gay men.

The only exceptions are heavier rock performers, like Pat Benatar.

Every corporate CEO should take note and apply the same principles. Swift obliterates the myth that shortchanging workers protects profits, when in actuality it’s the opposite. Her profits only amplified because she made workers’ well being and happiness top priorities.

That is the thing about her music. It is her singing about herself. And it is her singing about topics that people outgrow. My daughters used to love her. Now? They have outgrown her music.

One only needs to look at her “Patriarchy” song.

I will not post the rest of the title.

THIS is what she’s teaching young girls.

IIRC she’s also pro perversion and pro abortion. So she gives big bonuses to her large crew,... she surely needs some write offs anyway.

Tina Turner kept going until her body just couldn’t. Same with Aretha Franklin. Celine. Melissa Etheridge is still rolling. Plenty of women just keep on trucking. Even if it’s just old gay men in the audience, which it isn’t, so what, old gay men spend money, great audience to have.

LOL, I don’t think there are a lot of gay men in Melissa Etheridge’s audience. Now gay women.....that’s another story.

Most music is about the songwriter. That’s the stuff that comes from the heart, that’s the stuff that speaks to people, because there is a commonness of experience. Heck that’s where the timeless classics come from, The Kinks See My Friends might be about Ray and Dave’s sister’s funeral, but once you’ve buried a loved one, that song is about YOU. Your daughters might think they’ve out grown it, but wait another 10 years. Part of the growing up cycle, dropping stuff from your youth and rediscovering it. I know plenty of people that are older than Swift that love her stuff. She ain’t going away any time soon.

And gay men. The old gay guy I work with has seen her 3 times in the last couple of years. There’s that whole “supporting the club” thing. Also, she’s a really good blues guitar player.

Now to write lyrics, just type in a prompt saying what the song is about, and AI can generate the perfect lyrics. It’s over for songwriters.
