This guy is so out of touch. Has the average American even heard of Hemp protein, Baru nuts, Spirulina or Sorghum? I certainly haven’t. You gonna put those on your shopping list next time?
Why can’t they just recommend food that is commonly known that would be better for you to eat (ie rye bread instead of white bread)?

What food did cavemen eat?

Our bodies were designed to be cavemen.

I have heard of Spirulina, otherwise know as pond scum. It is actually pretty potent stuff. One small glass, and you feel like lighting bolts are shooting off of your fingers. However, making a regular diet of Spirulina will give you some unfortune digestive problems, requiring frequent trips to the bathroom, among other things.

Lentils, OTOH, are 100% good. They are used a lot in Indian food, and Mamoon's in the East Village on St. Marks, has a lentil soup you have to try at least once in your life.

Sorghum is widely grown for animal feed. We used to eat it at breakfast time sometimes when I was a kid because farmers grew a lot of it.

They’d roast the grains and grind it in a coffee grinder and cook it like oatmeal. It was actually good
