Two blind women from Florida are outraged at Southwest Airlines after, they said, they were left behind by their flight.
Southwest Airlines forgot to board passengers Camille Tate and Sherri Brun, who are both blind, on to their July 14 flight out of New Orleans to Orlando before taking off.
“I was angry and frustrated,” said Tate.
According to Southwest, the flight the women were on was delayed by five hours.
By the time the airline realized the mistake, the plane had already landed in Florida.
Southwest proceeded to send the jet back to pick up the women, with the pair being the only passengers on board.
“You’re the only two people on this flight because they forgot about you,” said Brun.
The duo shared that the travel nightmare began with delays and was only made worse by poor communication from Southwest Airlines staff.
“Nobody at B6 told us anything, nobody came to get us at B4,” said Brun. “The time passed.”
They said no one told them boarding had begun. Without sight, they couldn’t see the gate activity and were left behind because they didn’t get re-booked.
“That airplane took off, and our boarding pass had not been swiped,” said Tate.
The pair says the incident shows that Southwest needs to make changes moving forward.
“The way they help their customers that require additional assistance needs to change,” said Brun. “There needs to be follow through:”
“There needs to be some improvement in how they communicate with their passengers, especially those that have disabilities,” added Tate.
In a statement, Southwest Airlines apologized, offering the women a $100 voucher for a future flight because of their delayed trip, and promised to provide better service for those with disabilities.
“Nobody said a word to us about another flight,” Brun said. “We were just waiting at the gate, checking the app, like everyone else.”

Fiction
The report doesn’t say, but any rookie reporter would ask if the blind passengers had informed Southwest, either when booking or arriving at the gate. Somehow, they made their way into the boarding queue. Did they have the special canes? Were they accompanied by a friend or relative? Was there any way the gate crew could have known?
And what were they doing in the “B” group anyway? Did they not hear the pre-boarding announcement? They should have been the first passengers on the plane. I don’t think the fault lies exclusively with Southwest.
Yup.
That’s implied when they flew the plane back to pick them up.
To which I might add, is this a case of the disabled gaming for a lawsuit?
It has been done before, albeit not in this venue.
Good questions that would help to have answered.
“That’s implied when they flew the plane back to pick them up.”
They didn’t fly the plane back. They flew on the originally scheduled flight.
The didn’t miss their flight.

That's a pretty awesome way to say "We're sorry".
“That’s a pretty awesome way to say “We’re sorry”.”
Only it is fake news.
They should have made friends with someone around them. Or is america that snobbish?. We would have kept an eye on disabled passengers we are traveling with. Talk to somebody!!!!!
They’re blind? Just tell them “Welcome to Florida!” and be done with it. Both places have similar climates.
🤔They could have just told them it was the CEO’s corporate jet, after all, to them all jets look rhetorical same🤷🏼♂️
I would be much more willing to take the bump if I knew I would get a good seat in the later plane and that I was actually going to get the compensation. Often times they get people to volunteer and they give up their seats and then the plane is not full and you end up with a crappy seat or your get a crappy seat on the next fight. Not interested in that game.
Please explain.
I am hearing impaired. Trying to make sense of airport announcements is an effort in futility. Even my wife, who hears everything, has difficulty.
““There needs to be some improvement in how they communicate with their passengers, especially those that have disabilities,” added Tate.”
Too bad ladies. Airlines are way to busy shuffling fatties around in wheel chairs (Hawaii was bad) to help truly disabled people. It is miracle like when the fatties get their bags they can miraculously walk to their shuttle bus without any problem.
Please. Learn to read.

Great job, Southwest! 👍🏻👍🏻
I believe there is no business more difficult than the airline business.
I’ll admit I’m fine with hearing and eyesight and even I have issues with boarding and don’t even get me started about a 15 minute connecting flight on the other side of the airport!
