RFK Jr. Pushes to Ban Using Food Stamps to Buy Soda: ‘U.S. Taxpayers Should Not Pay for It’
Breitbart ^ | 4 Aug 2025 | Elizabeth Weibel

Posted on 08/05/2025 2:57:36 AM PDT by Olog-hai

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed that he is taking action to prevent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) users from purchasing items such as sugary drinks.

Kennedy pointed out that while people can make their own decisions regarding what to buy and what not to buy, taxpayers in the United States “should not pay” for people on SNAP to purchase items like sugary sodas.

The comments from Kennedy were made as he and U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary joined Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins in celebrating the signing of six new SNAP state waivers, which would “amend the statutory definition of food for purchase and end the subsidization of popular types of junk food beginning in 2026,” according to an HHS press release. States signing the new SNAP waivers include West Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Other states, such as Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Arkansas, Idaho, and Utah, have previously signed SNAP waivers. …

Taxpayers are buying it. You are enslaving taxpayers today for some vision of future completely different enslavement.

A third of all vets are now officially “disabled”, meaning they will still get SNAP without any restrictions. Vets of prime working age who aren’t disabled would in 2 years need to work, volunteer, or be in job training 20 hours a week.

Do you really object to that?

“”Wish we had more control over what Congress spends our money on... SNAP is needed, most other things they spend our money on are not... Like corporate welfare for the Military Industrial Complex and Big Pharma.””

Big Pharma and the MIC are rackets that the mafia would be envious of. But that’s just ‘one’ way Big Government wastes our money, against our wishes.

What I want is ‘all’ of the welfare fraud to be eliminated. If that ever happened (nice dream I’ve got there)... America would have an abundant amount of money to spend supporting the truly needy. Instead, we’re supporting invading illegals, the lazy/indolent, criminals, drug addicts and other cretins in a lifestyle that is, in many cases, much better than those that have served this nation (US veterans).

I’m a military brat. My dad retired Naval Air. We were very middle class, with no extra money for luxuries. Very conservative growing up. But dammit... I think if a veteran on SNAP wants to purchase a damned Dr. Pepper with that EBT card, he should be able to. It shouldn’t even be an issue.

What I don’t want my money going to is supporting addicts in their addictions, when they don’t want to get clean/straight... or supporting illegals/gang bangers, or people that have never worked, don’t want to work and will never work for their ‘freebies’.

Now here is a point you did not bring up that I am going to share in support of folks who do need SNAP. I’m going to give you some Ammo for your argument box. Many of them have already paid their fair share of taxes into the system too as an insurance policy. And many of those collecting SNAP are still working and paying into the system even though they have no choice but to get some of it back because even though they are working they really are shy enough to make ends meet... So the “full burden” is not on the other taxpayers, most of those who receive have also prepaid or are still paying into the system too. It is just like paying into Social Security insurance.

“”Meanwhile, absolutely NO SCRIPTURE regarding what’s going on, Democrats are okay even though they kill the Unborn Babies by the millions, don’t speak out against Homosexual Marriage, “Transgender” etc.””

Which is why I am very grateful to my parents for bringing me up to be a “non-denominational” Christian. I was allowed to go to Bible School, but we did not attend a church and I have been proven correct to avoid “organized religion”. It will only become more apparent as time goes on.

“The trick is to buy something legal and trade it back at a discount.“

Around here EBT is used to buy meat at a local butcher. It is resold at 50% on the dollar. I wondered why there was a stream of Mountain Dew mouth tweakers streaming out of the butcher shop with bags a beef.

I’m thinking of buying some. Why not? EBT drives up food prices so why not bring my prices down?

Very good point. Thanks. And again, the only thing I’m trying to say here is... let’s not insist on government restricting what kind of “food” can be purchased by everyone on SNAP... everyone including US vets...

when we should be focusing on bigger, more egregious things that Government is wasting our money on... as we speak.. and has for decades. We should be focusing on ‘taking away’ government’s ability to waste our money on these things. And eliminating the welfare fraud would go a long way towards recovering the economy from the damage done by the Democrats.

It’s obvious that you don’t understand what I am saying here, else you wouldn’t ask that question. I’m out.

Very LITTLE actual Scripture gets out

My main target 🎯🎯🎯 is lurkers and
it’s done way better than I expected

Though I never knew nor expected how
MUCH Democrats were committed to the
Homosexual Agenda, LGBT, LGBTQ+ and
Satan’s lie of “Transgender”

AND MEN in WOMEN’S Sports

This is truly the spirit of antichrist

Now we knew that Democrats like to

It used to be that people didn’t want to put their hands out.

I was eligible for help when young.i was too ashamed to ask. I walked the streets, going from business to business, asking for work.

$300/month doesn’t go far. Didn’t then, either.

That was a dark time, and long ago.

I caught that from the beginning, watching out for clan. But keep in mind Veterans also do receive special extra compensation on top of all other forms of compensation that others do not get. And they deserve it. But that extra is also taxpayer money they could use to buy sodas with if they like if SNAP will not cover it. They are paid extra “Soda money” as a special class.

Noted. Thanks for the clarification.

As a veteran, please tell me what compensations I should be getting?

Good. Take lobster and alcohol off the EBT menu as well:

Similar here. Dad would let me take a few sips from his beer can.

When I got older, about 14 or so, he got for Christmas one of those miniature Hamms kegs and a fancy bottle of scotch. He couldn’t figure out how that little keg got drained so fast and how that scotch kept getting weaker and weaker as though it had been diluted with water.

If you’re taking other people’s money from the government, extorted from them by the government, then suck it up about being told what you can can can’t buy.

If they want to buy anything they want, they can go out and earn their own money to pay for it, just like the rest of us.

Your position is shear foolishness.

Exactly.

We lived in an Upstate NY welfare town for 18 LONG years and the abuse of the food stamps and freebies is horrific.
