Mandatory two year practical vocational schooling, and actual objective historical education, with military discipline would help youth.

Mandatory schooling after they eat of at least 12 years of youth? No! That could be even worse than the current coercive environment for Joe Taxpayer to pay for almost everyone to go to college.

I think if it was reformatted into a series of certifications that collectively added up to a bachelor’s and masters and doctorate, college could become worth it again. Not for general studies but some specific, like the equivalent of a trade.

With the exception of hard science degrees college is a scam and a waste of time and money

Nothing but indoctrination centers

In most cases college isn’t worth it even if tuitions from 60 years ago still applied, an era when a classic education was still offered.

Maybe a little emphasis on developing a solid work ethic instead of 24/7/365 activism would help?

Much of college could be moved online.

We could raise taxes on corporations and then allow them to get tax credits for training new employees without experience.

Get the GOVERNMENT out of college and the rest will fall into place. Loans will still be available, but only for PRODUCTIVE pursuits, as the risk of default will be on the bank, like virtually every other loan is. For those wanting to study Shakespeare, or Women’s Attitudes, or whatever, college will still be available, but people will have to PAY THEIR WAY, or put some skin in the game (as in collateral).

Obviously, many more people will learn trades (which really need to begin in high school, or earlier), and that is what’s necessary if the US doesn’t want to turn into a S-hole nation, given where the rest of the world is heading.

Only as a credential and only where needed. If you want to teach English Lit at a non religious private school you have to go Ivy League, same for college professors most anywhere. Big CPA, Law and Investment Banking are credential driven. But, keep in mind that Ivy League college teaches less overall and less useful skills by far than the lowest ranking public community colleges. Just buy a used copy of any edition of the Harvard Law Journal on Ebay and read it for yourself. It is all nonsensical garbage.

For non-trade technical stuff and business yes.

For useless degrees that amount to nothing more than a college being an extension of daycare, no.

Perhaps colleges should have to co-sign loans and secure them with collateral.

No. Full stop. Worse, it’s a reeducation camp you pay for in tuition and tax subsidies.

No this is stupid.

Many teens need to start their lives early. 14 or so. Apprentice programs but not mandatory school.

Early marriage with no taxes due each year a child is born. Only for the races with low birthrate. Parity you know.

Another thing might be to require students to have paid at least $8,000 in tuition (and had to pay at least $900 in FICA tax) at least four months previously before being able to get a federal student loan.

Student loan recipients would have to have substantially or completely paid for at least a semester of college by their own efforts and found college to be satisfactory.
