Greg Gutfeld to Make Tonight Show Debut Next Week
LateNighter ^ | July 31, 2025 | Jed Rosenzweig

First on LateNighter: The host of Fox News’ late-night–styled show Gutfeld! is set to make his first-ever appearance on a traditional network late night show.

NBC has confirmed that Greg Gutfeld will be Jimmy Fallon’s guest on The Tonight Show next Thursday, August 7.

Known for his provocative, right-leaning humor and combative on-air persona, Gutfeld has long positioned himself as a foil to network late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Kimmel—frequently mocking the trio as interchangeable liberal mouthpieces.

Fallon, whose Tonight Show has focused more heavily on music, games, and celebrity banter than politics, has traditionally shied away from overtly partisan bookings. Gutfeld’s appearance may indicate a willingness to engage a broader ideological mix of guests—or may simply be a high-profile ratings play.

Gutfeld! launched in April 2021 as a hybrid of monologue-driven commentary and panel discussions, blending political takes with punchlines. The show now draws the most total viewers across all of cable TV in his 10pm ET/7pm PT timeslot, and is the frequently highest rated show across all of cable news among viewers 25-54.

Gutfeld! also routinely draws a larger audience than any of the traditional broadcast late night shows.

Smart move by Fallon. I think Fallon sometimes gets unfairly lumped in with Kimmel, Colbert and Meyers. In recent years he may have given in to pressure to be more political, but I don't think he's a true believer like the other three.

I find Fallon to not be particularly partisan, but he isnt principled. He will do whatever he is told to do.

“””I find Fallon to not be particularly partisan, but he isnt principled. He will do whatever he is told to do.””

I had no idea he was still on tv.

Gutfeld is old for his first showbiz break but better late than never.

I think this is Fallon reading the writing on the wall and making the conscious decision to make a few career-saving moves in moving more toward the center.

Of all the late night hosts, he is the most tolerable, and I have watched him on the occasion that he has people from Nintendo on to show off their latest stuff (he’s a huge gamer, and when Zelda: Breath of the Wild was slated for release, he hosted a preview of that on the show.

That said, he doesn’t hold a candle to Jay Leno, and isn’t even in the ballpark of Johnny Carson.

Gutfeld started doing Redeye on Fox in 2007, so he's been around for a while.

With his anal jokes and gay fixation, he’ll fit right in. I’ll pass.

Gutfeld might be older but he just had a kid last year so he’s still in the young-ish side where he relates to the 25-50 age group. Plus, he’s not afraid to speak on any topic and the guests make fun of each other as well as themselves. Democrats have NO sense of humor nor can they take teasing from even other dems! Pathetic lot of losers!

“I’ll pass.”

I’ve watched him a couple of times, but I don’t sense any authenticity. It looks to me that he reads most of what he says, so it’s probably written by some of 30 writers - like Tucker and the rest. I’ll pass too. Besides, he’s on way past my bedtime.

We haven’t watched Fox since 2020, but happened to go there last night. Watch Jimmy Failla, then Gutfeld immediately after. Both were very good.

He’s another gutless wonder.

He posts one of the funniest Trump routines of all time, then when there’s back lash he apologizes.

LIsten to the audience

Gutfeld is funny because he is intelligent. That always makes humor much better.

Will Gutfeld get out alive? I wish he had Tyrus with him as a body guard.

Fallon had Christian comedian John Crist on the show recently. Thought that was interesting.

#9 I have noticed Gutfelds jokes. Yuck!
So many other jokes he could do but he heads to the gutter first.

He makes Trump jokes because his bosses at NBC told him to do it.

He'll rather be apolitical.
