PS: It was about settling in Virginia, but it was after Jamestown. He did not hesitate to tell of despicable acts of settlers, but nothing they did matched that torture. Oh, great! I hope I don’t have a nightmare tonight.

I think the book you’re trying to remember is “The Savage Kingdom” by one Benjamin Woolley. It’s about Jamestown from 1607 and he does describe the natives taking apart a rapist, one slice at a time, while making another settler watch and then release him to pass the word about messing with native women and kids.
