I understand. My doctor asked me a couple of days ago how often I take oxy- for my pain; I answered, 'Maybe once a year.' I DO take hydro- (5mg, 7.5 mg) perhaps once every month to six weeks.
I avoid them because of the bowel problems they cause me. BUT the pain can really drain our energy and our resolve - our concentration. Mine is stealing my ability to walk and get things done. I keep seeking benign pain management solutions... much time, $$$ plus surgeries spent there for little gain.
The source of my agony is a constricted 'pinched' spinal column at the Lumbar, cauda equina. I am not sure that medicine has a solution in my case (three surgeries) but I cling by faith to the belief that the Lord WILL heal me - just when? 🙂🤷♂️
I am getting an MRI next week, just to clear the air; we will see.... Satan has his own staff of 'doctors'. 😠
I hope your pain case is better at finding relief.
This is merely to remain semi-functional. I normally spend 22+ hours a day either in bed or in an orthopedic office chair. The chair was $1700 twelve years ago and worth every penny. It's a shame the VA wouldn't cover it. It is one of the few places I'm not in pain. If I had to, I'd pay double and consider the money well spent.
I'm fortunate not to have any cravings or other issues from the medication. As a recovering alcoholic (19.5 years) I know how bad that can be.

Oxy and his brothers worked great. Just in knee replacement the first ten days there is no hope. Day 11 is different.
Prayers up, Bob, for relief for you.
