This is merely to remain semi-functional. I normally spend 22+ hours a day either in bed or in an orthopedic office chair. The chair was $1700 twelve years ago and worth every penny. It's a shame the VA wouldn't cover it. It is one of the few places I'm not in pain. If I had to, I'd pay double and consider the money well spent.
I'm fortunate not to have any cravings or other issues from the medication. As a recovering alcoholic (19.5 years) I know how bad that can be.

Bless your heart! I had no idea; you come across well on line. I thought that you were probably still 'active duty'. It is true that the opioids are not too dangerous if proportioned to the pain and used with disciplined control - which few folks seem to accomplish, understandably.
While I abhor addiction, my main deterrent with opioids, as I say, is related to bowel problems. One set of difficult challenges is adequate for me, thank you. 🤷♂️
Fantastic news about the 'chair'! I also have a chair, not so fancy, that offers peace for a while - if I don't fall asleep! 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear that, LP. I had imagined you were spending your days on a sailboat somewhere. I’m sure you have great memories of the days you did spend on the water before the pain confined you. I hope you’re able to get out occasionally, even as a passenger on someone else’s boat. I’m sad to read about your situation.
I never knew of your health issues you are so positive and informative. I am so very sorry and pray for your relief.
Prayers for you.
